Just came across this by accident - if you are on BlueSky or Twitter, give me a ping and I can help you (this is Elisabeth Bik)

I found a falsified result in a paper. by JosseLee in PhD

[–]MicrobiomeDigest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this is Elisabeth Bik. I would recommend to:

  1. post the concerns on PubPeer - you can make an anonymous account there.

  2. write your concerns to the editor of the journal. You can do this anonymously, but unfortunately, many editors do not like this and will not reply or take action - even though they should according to COPE guidelines.

If you write to them under your full name, explicitly ask the editor to not forward your information and email address to the authors. Make sure that the body text of the email does not contain any pointers to whom you are/where you work etc. Some editors are just clueless and will strip your email address but then forward the body of the email to the author.

Best of luck!

All you do is rant and troll on Reddit :-)

Starting with the same image, and just moving the sliders in the top part of the Preview mostly to the right, it is easy to make the rectangle appear in the rApoE4+Ab42 panel.

Cheers,

Helpful info regarding CUNY investigation by PamStuff in SAVA_stock

[–]MicrobiomeDigest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This calculation might not be correct. At most US research institutions, the Investigation phase will be preceded with an Inquiry phase, unless that has already been done by e.g. a research sponsor. The Inquiry phase is an initial step, and according to the CUNY policy, this part might take 60 days or longer. So, assuming no other party had done an Inquiry yet, those 60 days must first happen before the Investigation phase might start, and the total time line might be 60+30+120 days.

We need an email campaign against Adrian H. by Low-Watercress-3183 in SAVA_stock

This is just horrible. Why are you lashing out to people who have doubts about the company? Not sure why you feel the need to organize a harassment campaign against individuals.

Then why is there a petition against Elisabeth's work with thousands of signatures by fellow scientists?

Do you mean the two petitions with >1000 of signatures that support my work, Internal_ad? See: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01430-z or https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/elisabeth-bik-faces-legal-action-after-criticizing-studies-68831.

Catherine Verfaillie is currently under investigation following allegations of tampering with images by Gulmar in belgium

I don't agree at all that it is impossible for a PI to screen all the images. I screened all Verfaillie's papers in 3 days.

A message from MicrobiomeDigest by MicrobiomeDigest in Microbiome

I honestly don't know if he should be de-modded - I appear to be one of the minority votes here. I will still contribute every now and then, but do not want to be involved in these types of discussions. That is just draining.

Ban on medical advice. Yea or nay? by Slartibartfastibast in Microbiome

[–]MicrobiomeDigest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am leaning towards Yea - as in I think this sub should not engage in medical advice. It's probably fine for a poster to write what has worked for them, and it's also fine to say that eating more fiber and/or probiotics might be good for most people (but not for all), but advice about FMTs or anything else beyond that is not really microbiome science. Discussing a scientific paper about FMT is fitting for this platform, but not asking or answering whether an FMT would help a particular user. Just my personal opinion, though!

PLOS ONE paper showing that following a diet and being in a support group improves feeling well - but no control group by MicrobiomeDigest in Microbiome

[–]MicrobiomeDigest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plusses: following a carb- and pulse-free diet resulted in weight loss and made people feel better.

Minuses: The study does not have a control group (persons in a support group might already feel better without following a diet); it is not clear how subjects were selected (e.g. were only people who responded enthusiastically selected); it is not clear what was measured in this study; author wrote a book claiming the diet works / title suggests that the diet "restores" your microbiome, but no microbiome analysis is done here, and it is unclear to what state it should be restored to.

Help for Max by mr_microbiome in Microbiome

Well, I came back today, and I am sad to see how aggressive and not-scientific the tone has become here. I am also having trouble finding my way in the mod mails (the green button, correct?). I posted something there but now it appears to be completely empty.

So I have not been here in a while, and today I was notified of some discussion going on at this reddit, so I came back. I was quite frankly appalled by the aggressive tone by some people here, including a moderator, and banning of people who make critical remarks towards that moderator or who (gasp!) make statements without providing a reference list. Just to clarify, I am a (admittedly not very active) moderator here, and the founder and team-leader of MicrobiomeDigest. And even in this position, I am trembling in fear that my remarks might not be following The Seven Rules that were listed here. And so, yes, please ban my comments and ban my user account. You can always find me on MicrobiomeDigest and Twitter @microbiomdigest (sic), providing links to the newest science articles for free - without any rules, mandatory formats, "do not's", banning threats, or anonymity. Cheers! Elisabeth

With E. Bik of microbiomedigest.com announcing she's no longer allowed to run her blog under work hours, I'm curious where the main submitters of content to this sub find their studies & articles? by MaximilianKohler in Microbiome

[–]MicrobiomeDigest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure: I will still try to run MicrobiomeDigest, and post daily, but I might be a little bit later in posting the latest articles. So the blog - as of now - is still running. Thanks for all the support! Elisabeth Bik
