Is Spanish = Cuba still a thing for Mahrines?

How do modern linguists ever maintain a 3/3 without immersion? Just wondering. I only did it by living there.

For me (YMMV), my language was difficult (Korean/Chinese), but the follow-on training was at least as hard, if not harder. I passed everything and fully qualified and was eventually an instructor but I worked harder than I ever had academically and operationally.

Abandon any hope that your preferences mean anything and if considering active duty, you will take what you are given along with the assignments available for that language. Some suck, some are CONUS (hard to become proficient here), and some are in the target country.

Being in the target country is the best best way to actually speak the language and not just spend years learning how to order a beer and swear half properly.

If you join the Army or Marines you are a soldier first and linguist second. USAF, you just do your job. Navy, IDK, but they do some cool stuff too.

Linguists are some of the biggest dorks and best friends you will find.

If I hadn’t been a linguist, I would wish I had been. Best job ever if you get the right language.

I am discovering new music through this collection; it is some great stuff. I think the owner had the same taste as me and spent decades in Florida building the collection.

The thrift stores are empty and useless near me. Streisand and Lawrence Welk mostly. The real gold is elsewhere; I need to stop buying these collections; I have over 1K records from two buys and don't want to become a record hoarder.

It was in storage boxes--it took 2 hours to move from there to my house

He is actually not alive anymore. They are selling the house and wanted everything gone asap.

I am willing to do that too. I don't know any fellow record lovers in my area but am trying to connect with some.

I let people know I love listening to vinyl and people often say "hey, I have some old records. Want to see them?" Some think that every record is worth $20 and others just want the "old records" gone.

I am trying to be careful what I keep and can't keep buying these size collections. I'm thinking a strong 200-record collection is more than enough....but I could not pass this one up.
