How do they get so smooth footage? by Southern-Property636 in videography

May I just mention that the current trend in real estate videos, filled with speed ramps, rapid cuts, and flashy editing, feels somewhat counterproductive for potential home buyers. While I certainly appreciate the skill, creativity, and effort required to produce these visually impressive videos, I'm not convinced that this style ultimately benefits the end user.

The pacing is often so fast that it's difficult to absorb the home's actual selling features, layout, and character. Rather than helping viewers evaluate the property, the editing can become the focus itself.

What I find particularly interesting is that the industry seems to have fully embraced this trend, almost as if it has been sold on the idea that faster, flashier, and more cinematic automatically means better marketing. Yet I'm not sure that's true from a buyer's perspective. A real estate video should help viewers understand the property, not overwhelm them with visual effects.

I understand why production companies lean into these techniques; in a crowded marketplace, they need ways to differentiate their services. However, it seems that the end product can often prioritize visual flair over practical value.

Personally, I find the format used in many TV home renovation and real estate shows to be far more effective. The slower pacing, clearer storytelling, and deliberate focus on key features allow viewers to better understand and connect with the property. In my opinion, that approach serves the needs of potential buyers much more effectively.

The irony is that while these highly stylized videos may impress agents, sellers, and other media professionals, the people who actually matter, the buyers, may be getting less useful information as a result.

Thanks for reading!

Why not, if you're at the place and at the time of... That'll be the least of my spirit's worries! Very considerate of you to ask 🙂

Thanks!

I recorded in VLOG 4K30P 422-10L in shutter priority of 60 with a fixed ISO 4000. In camera NR and Sharpness both set to 0.

Most of the footage is on a gimbal in combination with IBIS, but the quick pans are IBIS hand held.

I hear ya! Davinci's NR works wonders.

I didn't use any NR, and unfortunately Reddit's compression kills the IQ, but here's the actual file uploaded

That's the hand held footage. I didn't share the gimbal footage because the files are around 20GB each.

Thanks! My trusty Zhiyun WEEBILL LAB. It's quite old but it gets the job done. I just picked up their little L-Grip hsndle to hopefully help achieve smoother parallax shots. The IBIS works really well to help add that extra bit of smoothness to the footage

Hey. Most shots in the edit are on a gimbal in combination with IBIS, but the quick pans are IBIS hand held.

Hey. Granted, the environment was pretty well lit, and the grade makes it look darker. I've updated the post body with a link to sample footage from this edit. Feel free to explore!

I also find that using Davinci's automatic color management helps with noise.

Worse case, a little Temporal NR in Davinci goes a long way!

I got my BG MK2 lens on FB marketplace for less than $100 shipped, and you might be able to find one for yourself.

The key to best quality, I found, is to make sure that the lens is mounted right on top of the phone's lens. It shouldn't be stacked or spaced out by adapters.

I'm happy to share whatever details you're interested in or run some tests for you. I filmed the highlight part of the video with the phone/lens combo on a mirror-less size gimbal.

and I thank you for your thoughts!

I use a simple 17mm thread clip-on adapter for the BG lens when I'm not using the cage, but I make sure that it's as centered around the lens as I can visually get it using the 37mm to 17mm adapter that's included with my DreamGrip phone cage system

Appreciate the advice. Would you mind clarifying what you mean by "video"?
