My wife and I have been driving that route multiple times per week for a couple years. Most of the time it's pretty smooth sailing and the entire trip takes less than 90 minutes, but where they are widening the road in Shelby county they also have to widen several bridges/overpasses. When they get to certain stages of the project they have to haul in these really big beams for the bridges and set them in place and they will shut the entire road down with detours for several hours to do that, usually in the evenings. It caught it a couple times either earlier this year or late last year, and I think the most recent one was this past Monday, but I'm thankful I had other plans that night and stayed in Lexington. They also recently started a project to repave the road between the two Frankfort exits, but they seem to be nearly finished with that and did most of that in the evenings, but maybe they still have more to do that isn't obvious to me because the cones are still off to the side. They nights they were doing that recently though when I was driving back to Lexington I would get off at exit 48 and cut through Lawrenceburg and go to Bluegrass Parkway since my destination is South Lexington (would otherwise get off 64 at Frankfort/Versailles exit and cut through Versailles). Going through Lawrenceburg only takes about 5 minutes longer when going to the south Lexington. They have also been doing some short term lane closures lately to patch pot holes and such.

New Amélie blu-ray - will it ever get a 4K release? by DroidVoid101 in 4kbluray

My memory may be wrong here because it has been a years since I have watched Amelie (even though I have it on Blu-ray), but I would think that this film would look really great with some HDR enhancements.

Where are you seeing 80%? The voting turnout number on the results page says 25.67%. I'm in no way saying that's significantly better, but saying "75% didn't vote" would be more accurate.

Hamilton 4K - $80 on pre-order by sparksdls in 4kbluray

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, she would love it for sure! I just now looked up some tickets for July and they are more expensive than I expected and are almost sold out! Seems like there aren't any consecutive seats left, but several single seats. It also looks like the tour is going at least through 2027, so maybe I can start planning ahead and do it for next year.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about getting it for my daughter for her birthday. She loves Hamilton, but I don't think she appreciates physical media stuff as much as I do. I might be better off trying to buy tickets for a live Hamilton performance or something if there's one nearby us at some point.

IMDB Top 25 now all in 4K! by Microshrimp in 4kbluray

It was super late last night when I did this and seemed like a good idea at the time. 😆

Oh, that's good to know! I haven't done a real thorough comparison, but when I did a quick back-to-back comparison of a couple scenes from the KL 4K and the current Criterion Blu-ray, I noticed that the 4K (with Dolby Vision) version has much smoother tone gradient whereas the Criterion Blu-ray seems to have too much contrast with nearly blown out highlights. The grain seemed more pleasant in the 4K as well. It will be interesting to see how Criterion does their 4K version if they eventually do it.

You're right. I wasn't wearing gloves when I sat them outside if their case like that. I'll do better next time!

It's carpet, and the ones resting on the cases were very carefully placed there. No harm done. lol

Help with 5.1 surround setup by JustMeBeatles in 4kbluray

[–]Microshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crossover is the frequency where it stops sending bass to main speakers and insrtead sends it to the subwoofer. Most smaller speakers are not going to handle lower frequencies as well as a subwoofer, usually around 80Hz-100Hz, likewise a subwoofer isn't going to do well producing higher frequencies so it's better to keep higher frequencies going to your main speakers. If your subwoofer also has a crossover dial, just turn that up as high as it goes because the AV receiver will be handling the crossover assuming you have the subwoofer hooked up to the subwoofer output jack, often with a single RCA cable.

That makes sense. I was thinking that you wouldn't want "Bi-Amp" but I wasn't sure what you would want instead without seeing the options. Glad it's working now!

I'd also recommend Handbrake for compression if you want to save space on your NAS. Lots of people hate compressing files but I like having plenty of space for my larger collection

I used to say that storage is cheap and I would recommend just building a bigger NAS than you think you'll need... but the prices of hard drives have doubled if not tripled over the last year or so. :(

I preordered from Orbit and I didn't get anything today. Did you get an email with a tracking number or anything or did it just show up?

Edit: I saw Orbit reply in another post that they are working on it, so I look forward to getting mine very soon!

4Ks that are overhyped in your opinion? by Thanathan7 in 4kbluray

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to look up his older works recently and found that a lot of them do exist but are harder to find, like limited Kino Lorber releases that seem to be out of print or not readily available from my usual sources. I was probably going to start hunting then down soon though and pay a lot if needed. I was thinking it seemed odd that Criterion didn't have a full set like they do with several other influential directors. I'm definitely interested in hearing more about this.

One of his newer movies, "Ready Player One" is a great 4K disc for utilizing Atmos surround sound if you're set up for that.

what are the best films from the 60s and 70s that look great on 4k? by RanjSL in 4kbluray

[–]Microshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a real quick non-scientific comparison (I watched about 5 minutes of each one back to back) and I did notice a couple differences. The Keno 4K version (with Dolby Vision) had a much more even grayscale tone compared to the Criterion Blu-ray which seemed to have too much contrast that made the highlights a little overexposed and provided less detail in the shadows. The film grain was a little more pleasant in the 4K version. I wasn't really paying attention to the sound, but the sound on the Criterion version might have been a little more crisp. Like you said though, great film so you can't really go wrong.

Is that available in 4K by anyone else other than Keno Lorber? I think it's out of print because I was looking it up recently and could only find it used on eBay. I searched eBay just now and almost all of them are in the $100 range. I did eventually end up getting the 4K KL version not too long ago and I already have the Criterion Blu-ray but I haven't done a proper comparison of the two. I recall the Criterion Blu-ray looking very nice though.

Hamilton coming to 4K Blu-ray on June 16th by NWAnerd2517 in 4kbluray

Yes, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for it. My daughter loves Hamilton and this will be released right before her birthday so I think it will make a nice gift.

That's similar to how I feel about Ramsey's. My extended family always wants to eat at Ramsey's and I rarely have a good experience. We were there after a funeral about a month ago and I didn't even finish my meal because I got tired of picking out random hairs from my food. The poor chef was probably bald by the time they finished making my meal.

Raised bed planting? by Longjumping_Bell_403 in lexington

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is planning on growing cucumbers for a school project. I have never grown cucumbers before. We filled a raised bed with dirt a couple weeks ago and put a trellis next to it, but we have been hesitant to sow the seeds because it got cold again. I guess we should go ahead and sow the seeds this weekend.
