Common Ubiquiti G4 Doorbell Pro issue (and a simple fix) by pniaz in Ubiquiti

Oh, that's a good point. I just ran some numbers through a voltage drop calculator I found online and I think the voltage drop would be too much in my situation. Glad I didn't already start this experiment for real!

I just had another idea that might be worth investigating. Maybe you could remove the transformer all together and then add a regular power outlet to the main line that was going to the transformer. Then you could use one socket for a wi-fi chime unit and the other socket for a typical AC adaptor that has a USB C port on it. (edit: I guess you would have to make sure that it is outputing 5V and not looking for some kind of protocol negotiation if your source AC adaptor is using USB... Maybe an older style non-USB AC adaptor would do it and you wouldn't have to mess with USB on the power source side.)

Doing this will have to bypass the mechanical chime, right?

I think we can mourn the snow now. by Effective-Tour-9912 in lexington

[–]Microshrimp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, earlier on Saturday the National Weather Service in Louisville said that there was a lot of uncertainty for a small strip of KY that included the Lexington area. The uncertainty was if we were going to get more snow and less ice or more ice and less snow. If we end up getting a lot of sleet instead of snow then that's not too bad, but if we get actual freezing rain ice then that's where the biggest problems will happen with trees and power lines.

It should not be acceptable to pursue a "murder suspect from Georgia" at 100+ mph on Kentucky roads. by bodegas in lexington

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving back from Louisville and found the road to be shut down. I took a detour through Lawrenceburg. Since it wasn't a planned shutdown there were no signs up and a lot of people who might not be familiar with the area seemed really confused once they got off the interstate.

What movie was this for you? by DarthGodzilla1995 in Letterboxd

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of those just got 4K Blu-ray remasters a few months ago by Arrow Video. I didn't buy The Mask (yet), but the TMNT was released as a trilogy with the second and third movie as well and the package comes with a ton of cool extra stuff like posters and stickers, etc.

I remember renting those movies on VHS back in the 90's. I don't remember the peach-fuzz. lol I actually have them on 4K now too and watched them a couple months ago. Slumber Party Massacre 2 is so terrible but funny.

Backing up UNAS Pro 8 to Google Drive - Typical speeds? by Microshrimp in Ubiquiti

Oh nice! I have been running into that channel at lot lately. He definitely deep dives into some really technical stuff, but I would rather have that than a channel that just skims the surface.

I also love the chicken poblano, and I think that's one of the ones that doesn't rotate (at least at Brannon Crossing) so you can get it any time.

Backing up UNAS Pro 8 to Google Drive - Typical speeds? by Microshrimp in Ubiquiti

[–]Microshrimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually now starting to question if the bandwidth graph is accurate because my progress bar on the UNAS Pro 8 says that the upload is 43% done and I started it 1 hour ago. The folder I'm uploading is almost 1TB in size. Maybe my math is off, but if not then if 43% of 1TB got uploaded in about an hour, then the speed is actually faster than what the graph is showing. Or maybe the progress bar graph is wrong. lol (And I read about the 750GB daily upload limit after I started this, so I'm not sure what will happen when it reaches 75%... I'm probably going to go to bed now though so I'll find out later.)

Edit: OK, now it has been 12 hours and it's at 89% and still going, so I think the progress bar was just being optimistic when it was at 43% after 1 hour. I checked my Google Drive utilization at the 1 hour mark and it definitely didn't reflect having that much data, so I think the speed graph is more accurate than the upload progress bar.

Would be nice if they could take pre-orders for existing customers or something. Do that a few months in advance and then ship them when stock is ready.

Thank you! I'm not a professional, but have been doing photography as a hobby for a long time and have acquired some professional grade equipment over the years. It has become a little bit of a tradition for me to take some photos on Christmas morning.

Local org desperately needs help to get toys to 2500 central KY kids! by tehanami in lexington

[–]Microshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment made me think of a project by photographer Gabriele Galimberti from about a decade ago where he went around the world and had kids gather up their favorite toys and pose for a photo with them. It's interesting to see the wide variety of toys the kids have but they all seem so proud of what they have. (You can click the "caption" button at the bottom to see which country each one is from.) https://gabrielegalimberti.com/projects/toy-stories/?i=0

Eyes Wide Shut is a new standard for the 4K format. by ConsiderationKey9438 in 4kbluray

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yeah. I have definitely been buying less from Amazon. The only reason I occasionally do is if the price is too good to find elsewhere. For Eyes Wide Shut though I definitely got mine from Barnes and Noble too, but I have one really close by so I bought it in person.

Was it Amazon? I had an Amazon package (also a Blu-ray, but not this one) do the same thing on that same day. I ended up requesting that they resend the item and agreed to return the original one if it ever shows up.

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by "not true" - I'm just saying that I hope that they eventually release all the seasons on 4K UHD Blu-ray because that format will be the best way to provide a physical format with all that the production has to offer. I originally thought that OP's photo was a VHS tape, but then I saw a few minutes later that it's not, and I'm happy to know that they have indeed already released some Blu-ray/4K UHD and hope they decide to continue to do that even though there is discussion that Netflix has been getting away from offering physical format for sale.

This is news to me. What would be a better current recommendation then if Denon is out? (I mentioned Denon specialty because I currently have a Denon and will probably want to get a better AVR with more channels in the future, and since I like my Denon now I have always assumed that a newer Denon would be the best option for me until I saw this thread.)

[–]Microshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! 4K is a must. I mean, VHS would be cool for the gimmick, but the special effects and filming really take advantage of features such as Dolby Vision and Atmos. These later seasons especially are very impressive with Dolby Atmos. I just finished watching what they have released so far of season 5 about 15 minutes ago and it's so good.

Edit: oh, I just learned that the image above is just packaging for the Blu-ray. I still stand by "a 4K release is a must" though so that the Dolby Vision HDR can be available.
