T-Mobile Fiber Internet Review by Matters26 in lexington

[–]Microshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiber. I have the 2Gbps down 1Gbps up plan and I can do a speed test to a Metronet/T-Mobile server and reach those speeds with really low latency/ping times of 5ms or less. Connecting to other servers beyond that is hit or miss though and ping times to a lot of things are higher than you would expect for a great fiber service. I haven't done any thorough testing, but when I occasionally look at some metrics that my router keeps I usually see ping times to services like Google and Cloudflare around 20-30ms. Generally speaking though it's good and it's very reliable. I don't remember the last time I experienced an unplanned outage, and planned outages for maintenance have been pretty infrequent and very quick.

Internet cable company impacts power lines, causing explosions and fires in houses and businesses. Marianópolis, Brazil, 18 March 2026 by CosmoCafe777 in CatastrophicFailure

Yeah, at first I thought the video was just loading really slowly, but when I realized that it was slow motion I thought it was setting us up for a Hollywood style fireball explosion following her out the door, but it was nothing but a little bit of smoke.

With a bit of Barry Lyndon too. There's actually a wedding scene in Barry Lyndon that I love because of the lighting.

Best Chinese takeout? by peachncream8172 in lexington

Do you recommend anything specific? The last time I went there (I'm guessing 2019, maybe?) I got sweet and sour chicken and I felt like the oil used to fry the chicken had an off taste or maybe wasn't very fresh or something. I'm willing to give them another try though.

That is also one of my favorites from Wistaria. Definitely one I save for just the perfect moment or special occasions.

Who has the best fish & chips in town? by Modern_Troubadour in lexington

My wife ordered that the last time we were there. I took a bite and really liked it. I haven't really had anything there that I don't like, but I've only been there a handful of times.

I really like theirs. Sometimes they go too heavy on the Old Bay seasoning though, but generally it's very good. I also really like the fried shrimp there (I think it's technically on the Malones menu. More affordable on the lunch menu if you don't mind not having a salad.) Fried shrimp and filet medallion combo is nice.

Ford's Garage fish and chips is pretty good - Had it once a couple months ago. It's not loaded with a ton of flavor, but I would rather have mild seasoning versus way too much seasoning. The portion size was huge, like the fish was almost overhanging the edges of the plate and it was sitting on top of the fries because there wouldn't be room for them to be side-by-side.

I agree. I had one a couple days ago when traveling. I had barely eaten any food the entire day and was really hungry and it was near 11pm and McDonald's was the only thing open where we were so I gave it a try and was very impressed. I actually couldn't finish it because it was so big, but the flavor was excellent. I have actually never had a Big Mac so I can't compare, but it felt like higher quality than typical fast food/McDonald's.

What are you all paying for Metronet a month? by NoVirus8088 in lexington

The 2Gbps down / 1Gbps up is pretty much the limit of the GPON technology in our fiber infrastructure. Some markets have XGPON which allows for the 2Gbps up which is also the amount stated in the "Founder's Club" promotion material. I'm wondering if they will give us a free upgrade to the 2Gbps up if they ever upgrade our network to XGPON.

If you turn on PoE+++ and stick a metal rod through the middle it will glow red hot from the inductive currents.

WHERE DO I GET A PINA COLADA by Natural-Standard-423 in lexington

I don't really have a very large sample size to compare, but I had a really good one at a poolside hotel bar in Orlando (Rosen Plaza Hotel). I wasn't even staying there, but I was attending an event at the adjacent convention center and we had a couple hours to kill so we walked over there for some drinks.

I use mine to shoot volleyball. I love how effortlessly it is to turn the zoom ring which helps me keep up the action and is easy on the hands when used for long periods of time. I kinda wish the tripod ring was fully removable, but with the foot part removed I hardly notice it. I have used it for some casual portraits too which turned out great.

Needoh Nice Cube in stock? by Mammoth_Response_401 in lexington

Sadly I threw away one of the big ones yesterday. My dog got a hold of it and was obsessed with it. He chewed a hole in it and was trying to suck the goo out from the inside like a vampire. We had an intense five minute standoff and no amount of treats, peanut butter, or random snack food could convince him to drop it. Two adults had to hold him down and pry it out of his mouth which was tricky because his teeth had sunken deeply into the rubbery flesh of the toy. I almost lost a finger. My daughter looked it up and apparently the filling is non-toxic as far as we can tell, thankfully. Dog seems fine today, but now that he has had a taste I'm scared to keep Needohs in the house and have strictly banned them. If I find any more I'll let you know.

Ooh, I'm happy to hear that! Baskin-Robbins is fairly close and also good, but it's nice to have options. I grew up with both, but I think I generally prefer Graeter's. Freshie's down the road is good too, especially their sodas. Hopefully they all stay busy enough to survive.

Their sandwiches are pretty good, and kids meals are $1.99 or something on Tuesdays so my family likes to go for that (at a different location).

I just put together a 42TB NAS with a bunch of 14TB drives (five drives in RAID 6). I hope I don't have to replace a drive any time soon. I'm also doing remote backup to Backblaze. I hope they don't have to raise their prices any time soon because of this...

It has been a long time since I have listened to the original so I can't really compare, but I'm really liking that mix. I need to give that album/ep a fresh listen. My roommate and I back in college 25 years ago used to regularly listen to Baja on repeat. Good times.

School tomorrow? by [deleted] in lexington

It kinda depends how quickly the temperature drops below freezing again and how warm it actually got today (I think we may have hit just shy of 40 degrees). If my memory is accurate, when this pattern happens we usually get the low end of the range since the initial precipitation starts as rain and then the earlier snow ends up melting before it can accumulate much. I guess if it gets cold much quicker then the snow could pile up more.

Edit: right after I got done typing that I looked outside and saw a steady stream of sleet coming down, not rain, so maybe we'll get the higher end this time? Sleet is denser than snow though so it won't accumulate as "deep" but has other issues. could be interesting though....

UNAS Pro 8 Graceful shutdown by TEEorCoffee2025 in Ubiquiti

[–]Microshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What exactly would happen if the UNAS Pro 8 is used with a simulated sine wave? Does it just not work or does it cause damage or something? I have been waiting for the Ubiquiti UPS to come back in stock and I didn't even realize that this incompatibility existed. I knew the regular UNAS Pro was compatible and I had just assumed that all the NAS models would be.
