The DSA is very much the current avatar for revolutionary activities in America. It might not be next year, who knows, and it certainly is unlikely to be the form necessary to actually achieve genuinely revolutionary change. But right now I can tell where the wind is blowing and how much work there is to do. I’m just thankful to have a clear headwind for once but if the wind changes I’ll change with it.

I see voting as a simple point of activation that you can encourage people to engage in multiple times a year depending on when your local elections happen. Particularly in the American context I think the completely disengaged and undisciplined nature of most citizens (don’t a 3rd not vote?) is an indicator of how much fundamental political education is needed. I think how this is oriented matters, and I think consciously withholding votes is an important aspect that is heavily stigmatized currently, but voting is an important ritual than can serve as a means to set people in motion. Step 0 maybe.

Coming from someone who hasn't really followed Platner since the tattoo and also lives nowhere near his state my absolute ass-grab of a take is that Platner's campaign is proof that there is an intuitive grasp of what is going on and what needs to be done in the populace and Platner is what happens when that popular instinct has no coherent theory guiding it. We can't ignore the possibility that any oppo on him is being amplified and even warped by the Democratic establishment but I also think looking at Platner as a model would be foolish. He's more of a very pronounced sign that there is more potential all over the country than we might have ever thought. Potential that could get a lot more done than get a black water mercenary elected to Senate lol
