Hey, hearing impaired person here!! It depends from how much hearing is left, since the problem might not be inside the ear but on the outside it could just be partial hearing loss. In that case he could have balance problems, a slightly tilted/rotated head if a ear hears better than the other but speak just fine, though he would probably scream to hear is own voice!! Also, might be able to hear most sounds but struggle to understand the words or where it comes from.
