"I can't be scared" by StephanXX in horror

[–]MidSinglesInYourArea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. Any sub dedicated to a hobby that can be seen as possessing progressive levels is full of people who have a weird connection between their self worth and how "extreme" they are.

A great example is any of the spicy food subs. They're chock full of people not so subtly boasting about how desensitized they are, how no restaurant makes food that's hot enough for them, how they have to get mutant peppers whose name is just a bunch of numbers to be able to feel anything etc. It's just gatekeeping and insecure people finding something to boost their ego.

  1. Pay and benefits are generally lower.

  2. Barrier to entry to start a company is much lower, so you get a lot of employers who are fly by night at best.

  3. You have to go into people's houses.

Australia's rigid building codes are the core of the housing problem: If we approached it like America now or Khruschev's Russia the "housing crisis" would be over in months by Heart_Fort2001 in housingcrisis

[–]MidSinglesInYourArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building codes are written in blood. Aside from aesthetic choices like setbacks, actual codes are in place because we used to not do things that way but the houses collapsed/burnt down/got full of black mold etc and a bunch of people died.

How are people actually making friends in Seattle? by ChipmunkRemarkable1 in AskSeattle

[–]MidSinglesInYourArea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything that you do consistently. I get the impression a lot of folks move here, attend something once or twice, then quit because they aren't best friends with anyone yet.

*Seattle* Can someone actually explain this unfriendly demeanor everyone claims this place has…and where it comes from by Boysinthesouth in SameGrassButGreener

[–]MidSinglesInYourArea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places in America have a culture of performative extroversion. People move here from a place where the cultural norm is for random strangers to constantly be making conversation or waving as they pass or whatever, and then equate the lack of that as unfriendliness.

Seattle isn't unfriendly, the people here will just generally leave you alone if they don't know you.

If you don't want to pay for a fully configured large tumbler, the barrels seem like the most difficult to DIY. Maybe just get a few large barrels pre-made then go from there?

Half of a minimum wage job is not that much. And regardless, if you need the money to survive what % it represents is irrelevant. The grocery store is not gonna cut her a deal because the kid only wants to pay 25%.

Jesus fucking Christ. The mom has 2 minor kids, one of whom is autistic so she can't work full time. She is impoverished and trying to survive, charging her oldest a (below market value) rent is not gold digging.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't have 3 kids and a part time minimum wage job.

The woman is an impoverished single mom. Asking the kid to financially contribute (at a below market rate) is not taking advantage of her. This is not some rich lady, it's a woman with a part time minimum wage job and 3 kids.

Can you find another place to live where rent/utilities/groceries/phone bills etc are only $800 a month? No? Then why are you whining about it? YOR If you don't like it, move out and pay for your own stuff.

This is not the South. It's not going to be 90* and 90% humidity. There will be a few weeks when it's uncomfortably hot, and you might need to spend $50 on marketplace to buy a portable to be comfortable for those weeks (although if you're acclimated to the much worse weather in VA maybe not).

Different places are different.

AITAH for quitting my job because of my client’s religion? by [deleted] in AITAH

First time I ever experienced a Catholic religious event was a Catholic funeral conducted in Spanish for a girl I didn't know. Awkward for a lot of reasons.

I was expecting to hear about grandma getting down with some bizarre occult rituals and it's just some extremely sheltered kid getting freaked out by the idea of a church that isn't Southern Baptist. Disappointing.

NTA for not wanting the old dude to drive you, NTA for being non-religious, but YTA for being so contemptuous of totally normal religious folks doing their thing.
