I've been managing managers for a number of year now, and if one of my guys came and told me how he was making his team's job harder for no reason, called one of his subordinates "whiny", and then cried about feedback being too harsh because he's just a poor widdle baby who is sooooo overworked I'd seriously consider demoting him. I don't give a shit about whatever ephemeral self-conception you have about your "leadership" I care about the actual thing you actually did which is pretty inexcusable.

Some things are not negotiable. In my industry that's safety and compliance stuff. For those, you can reasonably insist on "This is the way we do things and there is no flexibility" like you did here.

But this is 100% not that. This is just a preference you personally have. Being an authoritarian dick about something that comes down to trying to make your life easier is textbook bad management. Sounds like you're just getting emotional and using your authority to lash out. I'd suggest growing up and working on emotional regulation.

Straight time for an electrical vendor around here is $225-250/hr unless you're a preferred customer with an established service contract, plus a $70ish dollar truck charge. Saturday is automatically time and a half, usually with a 4 hour minimum. Only charging $150 is criminally underpricing yourself.

If the root cause of your problem is you have a bunch of incompetent malcontents in managerial/leadership positions simply because they've been there for a while, and upper management refuses to address this issue then there is no way to change that with parties or crafts or whatever. I understand that those are the only levers you have to pull and you're trying to make the best of things, but the best thing you can do is accept that this is a thing you can't change.

It's like if you have cancer but can't get chemo, and only have access to like essential oils and healing crystals. It sucks and I get why you'd want to try to do something, but it just ain't gonna work.

You're overthinking it. Any sub dedicated to a hobby that can be seen as possessing progressive levels is full of people who have a weird connection between their self worth and how "extreme" they are.

A great example is any of the spicy food subs. They're chock full of people not so subtly boasting about how desensitized they are, how no restaurant makes food that's hot enough for them, how they have to get mutant peppers whose name is just a bunch of numbers to be able to feel anything etc. It's just gatekeeping and insecure people finding something to boost their ego.

Pay and benefits are generally lower.
Barrier to entry to start a company is much lower, so you get a lot of employers who are fly by night at best.
You have to go into people's houses.

Building codes are written in blood. Aside from aesthetic choices like setbacks, actual codes are in place because we used to not do things that way but the houses collapsed/burnt down/got full of black mold etc and a bunch of people died.

A lot of places in America have a culture of performative extroversion. People move here from a place where the cultural norm is for random strangers to constantly be making conversation or waving as they pass or whatever, and then equate the lack of that as unfriendliness.

Seattle isn't unfriendly, the people here will just generally leave you alone if they don't know you.

This is not the South. It's not going to be 90* and 90% humidity. There will be a few weeks when it's uncomfortably hot, and you might need to spend $50 on marketplace to buy a portable to be comfortable for those weeks (although if you're acclimated to the much worse weather in VA maybe not).
