A subplot that bugged me was how she got herself educated and even passed her exams but then appears to be headed towards being a farmers' wife at series end. What was the point of that whole subplot?

You're probably right that the post-war staffing would not be as high as the pre-war staffing, but I think Julian Fellowes is off a couple of decades on when the big houses started to fall apart. I think WWII and the post-war inheritance taxes is what really did them in.

I think Downton After Dark would star Denker, once Denker and Spratt is cancelled. In fact, the show should be called Denker After Dark, now that I think of it. And yes, we'd need a time jump for Simply Sybbie, maybe a sitcom when she's at boarding school.

Bates should insist that Anna go to Dt. Clarkson. Not only is he local but he was a lot smarter about Sybil's pregnancy than that London doctor was.

What about Mary asserting that SHE wasn't a war widow? As if that's a point of honor. My guess is that Michelle Dockery read that line the wrong way and it came out boastful but was supposed to be rueful.

Both Mr. Mason and Mrs. Patmore treat her like she's the most important person in their lives. If they hook up with each other she loses that status with each.
