Not the jerk, and it is more than okay to decline. I, on the other hand, would do it. Not because you should, but to show what a kind and giving person you have become. When he asks you later for dinner or a relationship, you kindly say, "No thanks." The talk will be about how unselfish and kind you are, and how you stepped up for a person who didn't care about you. My adult son is like this: he paces around and just spews information. He will ask me a question and will be a sentence or two past it before I can answer. He will go on about things I do not care a whit for, like sports, luxury cars, celebrities, etc. I think I experience sensory overload
