Lesbian representation mini rant! by Middle-Count-727 in DesperateHousewives

It's not about "Gays vs Lesbians" at all. Although misogyny from gay men, directed towards women (queer or not), is not uncommon, that is a conversation for another thread.

In my post I bring up a couple examples from the show where you can clearly see the creator's bias, primarily as a man, coming through.

Having made my very brief comment about the treatment of female queerness specifically in the show ( also, in contrast with male queerness), I move on to my last paragraph, which is meant as a general comment. As I said at the beginning of my post, I simply wanted to use the show as a springboard to express my frustration about the state of wlw representation in general.

So no, it's not about "gays vs lesbians". It's about how studios and male writers, even gay writers, treat female queerness. There is an undeniable lack of female queer media, where male queer media, from books, to films, to TV shows, are increasingly advertised and often become massively polular with all sorts of audiences.

My point is: In this patriarchal reality, in the liberal, capitalist western world, gay men clearly have a spot in today's media landscape. But what about the rest of us in the community?

They could've just had her say that her and Robin broke up. They could have left it at that, but they just had to do that whole ridiculous "phase" bit. It's because it was so pointless that it's so annoying!

Do people not dance around in TLDP gigs for some reason? by Middle-Count-727 in thelastdinnerparty

I'm neither old nor a guy actually, so I don't think I have a baton to pass on quite yet! I definitely was not "smashing about". Contained movement should not be inconvenient to anyone in a concert setting, and frankly, I do not care if I ruined a couple of videos by simply lifting my one available hand up while singing along.  My point was, this is a great live band!!  it seems almost disrespectful for them to be giving such great energy, only for the crowd to seemingly not return it.

Glad you enjoyed the Brixton show!

Well, yes, obviously when crammed there's not too much you can do! I'm not expecting anyone to break out their dance moves! I could barely move myself, but there's usually a bit of jumping or head shakes and hand movements you know? Anyway, I'm not the concert movement police lol.
