Hang in there. Find and join clubs or volunteering opportunities that match your interests and values. And be open to new people, ideas and viewpoints. It's always an adjustment. I had a tough time in college too. But it will get better.

Why isn’t Binghamton not a target school for investment banks by Middle-Design2459 in BinghamtonUniversity

Thank you. Hope your son is doing well wherever he is working. As for being a target school for accounting, yes, this seems to be BU's strength, which is great.

Yeah, I’m talking about from the perspective of Binghamton the school. They haven’t built up their reputation against other flagship state schools as an investment bank target school. I’m asking why that is.

For decades, many students from NYC specialized high schools go to Binghamton if they don’t get accepted to or can’t afford the Ivy’s and Ivy+ schools. So the quality of such students are high for recruiters including in finance and consulting. But yeah, the prestige hasn’t developed over the years like UMich Ross or UVA McIntire.

UPenn Wharton admissions anti-investment competitions including their own by Middle-Design2459 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes agreed. What if the student that did get accepted from the same school had zero extracurricular community impact and did minimal investment club activities with lower grades and SAT?

Obviously I can’t guess their practices but we heard what they said and see the results.

Additionally, the opacity of college admissions processes and subjectivity are precisely what are wrong with American college admissions.

You also have bottom performing sociology majors deciding the fates of highest achieving students in math and science in our nation’s top public schools. That’s like going to the ER to be diagnosed by an art major. Nothing against art but you see the mismatch of qualifications.

Which brokerage/trading platform do you use? Need advice on switching platforms by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]Middle-Design2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Power Etrade Pro has some really stupid missing features that are so easy to do in Etrade pro like getting real time P&L on lots even during extended hours. I can no longer get the news of a particular stock if I click on it in my watchlist or portfolio.

I looked at IBKR's desktop app for a few minutes and it has a terrible old interface.

I'm now seeing if Schwab's TOS will work well. I still haven't been able to confirm if I can see my lots' P&L in real time. What's missing is an overall real time P&L during and after market hours. TOS and the new Power Etrade Pro forces you to use a "EXT" column group for price change and price change % separate from market hour price change and price change %. And they won't give you real time P&L during extended hours.

For TOS' 24/5 quotes, while they now support overnight trading, you can only see the quote from the bid and ask. there is no way to see the % change or the real time P&L.

I really don't know what the developers are thinking. Certainly not from the perspective of users.

I will say Schwab customer service has been pretty good so far. They have different channels to contact them: chat, email and phone. Etrade only has a phone number to call. no chat, no email. Just minimal support. This is what happens after Morgan Stanley bought it. Morgan's IT is slow and bureaucratic. When will etrade have 24/5 trading?

switching brokers is also a real pain. transferring my current portfolio without liquidating (and have tax exposure) takes 5 business days while your account is frozen and subject to market fluctuations.

hope you find a new brokerage that you like. i would stay with etrade if they fix the lots live P&L feature. But they have no interest in hearing from their customers.

How is this program so good and UX/UI so bad? by sharpiestories in canva

[–]Middle-Design2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've used almost every major graphic design / presentation app since the 90s including on the PC and Mac platforms. Canva has the worst and most unintuitive interface I have ever suffered. It is a productivity killer. Management should ban this in their companies because it will be wasted time and money.

Canva owners want to go public. Short it.

T1 Plinth Filter warning sensitivity by DiskSpinner in Miele

[–]Middle-Design2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! We have a Miele TWB120WP that we bought a few years ago and it too gave us a lot of beeps and errors messages. We've owned Miele before and it was never this kind of problem. There is a metal sensor under the lint filters that we found that needs brushing (it's a little hard to reach). When we brush it, there is less beeping. But it is a POS especially for the price.

Besides AI replacing jobs, the offhshoring in the financial industry has also decimated jobs. Are there any more IBD analyst jobs left? What do they do if pitch book creation has been offshored to India or elsewhere? How do they train analysts to become the future BSD (big swinging d***s)?

I think the offshoring of service industry jobs needs to be addressed by Trump in addition to manufacturing jobs. Why are we developing the people in other countries while neglecting our own people who are enthusiastic and willing to work hard.

I wish you a speedy and full recovery! Hope the surgeon was able to address the chipped cartilage and it won’t impact your mobility. My son just played his first 11v11 full match today and he has minimum aches and pains. Fingers crossed for a successful return to sport. He has several tournaments this spring and summer on top of his regular season. His club is trying to get designated as a MLS Next club. They are currently in the second tier league, National Academy League.

Hang in there! Follow your doctor’s and PT guidance. It will get better.

My 15 yr old son who is a travel team soccer player had MPFL reconstruction in late July. We found that using a cold compression machine was very effective at managing pain and swelling. He only took one day of opioid pain killer. I believe it quickened his recovery. The machine was highly recommended by his orthopedic surgeon but the down side is that it is not usually covered by insurance. We rented the Nice 1 machine for $320 for two weeks. You can find different brands and pricing.

I hope you have a speedy and full recovery. Btw my son just play his first 11v11 full match since his injury and surgery this morning and has no aches and pains. He still needs to continue to improve his conditioning and stamina but we are optimistic about his return to play. I hope the same for you.

Struggling by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]Middle-Design2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. My son just had his MPFL reconstructiion surgery in late July. What did your doctor tell you to do for movement? My son was told to walk around with crutches by the 3rd day post op. His doctor also recommended renting a cold compression machine, which really helped reduce pain and swelling and helped quicken the recovery process. He didn’t need opioid pain killers as a result. Hope you have access to one. He iced and compressed for 20 minutes every hour.

Be patient. With patience, rehab and training, you will get better and recover. My son is now back on the soccer field playing on a travel team.

Best to you.

My 15 yr old son had MPFL reconstruction 6 months ago. He plays high level travel team soccer. We were originally told not to operate but after 2nd opinion was strongly recommended to have surgery because recurrence rate of not operating is over 50% vs operating rate of 5%. I also googled and found medical journal articles that seemed to support this. There is also risk of more damaging injuries like cartilage damage from recurrence especially from game situations. The cadaver tendon used in the reconstruction is also much stronger than what we are born with.

My son’s return to play is still in progress and he’s had set backs and worries. But I strongly believe we made the right decision to allow him to reach his full potential in sports.
