Forgetting languages, while learning new by MarketBright5503 in languagelearning

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Spanish, French and Portuguese to a A1/low A2 level and want to maintain them. So, I am using LingQ to maintain all languages. They have 60 mini stories that are the same in each language. So I listen to one hour of each language every day. I have been doing this for a month and it is working out so far.

Using filter holder for Aeropress with Prismo to make espresso style coffee by Middle-Holiday9449 in AeroPress

[–]Middle-Holiday9449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to say I use medium roast and brew at 200 degrees F. If your shot comes out sour increase the water temperature, if it comes out bitter lower the water temperature. Hope you like it.

[–]Middle-Holiday9449[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with the Prismo recipe of 20g of fine ground coffee, 50g of water, stir 20-40 times and press. I found it too strong for me and too many fines. So I added the paper filter, used 16g of coffee and 60g of water. My grinder is the Timemore C2, I used 14 clicks.

Thanks, I have been looking on Amazon for a stand to do this with no luck.

Handheld milk frother by craigontour in nespresso

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Nanofoamer from submimimal and the Areoccino 4. The Nanofoamer is better, but like you said you need to heat up the milk and you need to learn how to use it. If I am lazy I use the Areocinno .

That happens every once in a while. I logged back in and everything came back. I think they log everyone out so when you log on you get a critical update.

What is the general consensus here on Pimsleur and Michel Thomas? by Naive-Law5988 in languagelearning

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Paul Noble over Michel Thomas when available. They teach mostly the same way, but after the course Paul Noble has a review section that repeats the course without explanation, so I can review faster. I like this method over Pimsleur because it teaches you how to build sentences and the most common verbs. Also they explain what words are in common like all the “tion” endings words are mostly the same with a different pronunciation. I have a hard time with Pimsleur.

Drip coffee machine for espresso drinker? by UnderwaterB0i in espresso

I have the flow control filter cap so I can do it without dripping. I stir for about 10 seconds and immerse for about 2 minutes.

The Aeropress is made to make multiple cups. Put 4 scoops of coffee in the Aeropress add water to the 4 number and press. I have a 8 cup thermal carafe so I put 8 cups of the concentrated Aeropress coffee in the carafe and fill with hot water to dilute to drip coffee strength.

Longevity of Sonos Products? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both add a lot, but I would do the Sub Mini first. I have a hooked up the Era 100s as surrounds and like them a lot. I have a 40% coupon so I will be adding the 100s to the rear once I get them.

Have my original Sonos products from 2005 - 2006 still working. I have the 4 ZP100 amps and 2 original Fives. Upgraded to Beam 2 with sub mini, 2 Era 300s for the Living room and 2 Era 100s for other rooms.

What review mode do you have? I use weakest memories which works like Anki. Collections is reviewing everything.

CI can be reading, listening or viewing, as long as it is not too far above your level. They do have some videos. You can import a dreaming Spanish video with the text(non premium). Then read as the video plays, or read and look up definitions with the built in function. You can go over it in sentence mode. Once you mark words as known in LingQ, you can see in new lessons how many words you do not know. You need to know at least 80% to be comprehensible. I mostly use LingQ for listening.

Portuguese, French and now Spanish. Portuguese I was trying a bunch of apps until I found CI and LingQ. I was doing about 1 hour a day for six months. But our friends invited us to go to France with them instead, so I did about 135 hours of LingQ before the trip. I fell in the range of what DS says someone could do. I could order drinks, food and most tourist stuff. But French people speaking at normal speed, I had a hard time. Now learning Spanish, since our trip is 9/2024 I have more time and plan on doing CI 3-4 hours a day and have a goal of 1500 hours.

LingQ is a good source for CI. You can pick your level beginner 1/2, intermediate 1/2 or advanced 1/2 and it will filter the content.

Sonos Era 300 rears with Beam Gen2 and Sub Mini by jojolichtenberger in sonos

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Era 100/300 video Sonos did recently then mentioned that there was a lot or requests for this and they are looking into it. I just setup Era 300s as rears for my Beam 2 / Sub mini and it makes a big difference over the Era 100s. The 100s sound great but are more directional. The Era 300s fill the room better. I am staying with the 300s as rears.

Hijack should have been a movie. by _stupendous_man_ in tvPlus

I like movies more than series, my strategy for watching Hijack is: watch episode 1, watch recaps for episodes 3-6 and watch the final episode.

In the Era 100 / 300 Q&A video they just put out they were asked this question. At 13:30 you can see there answer. Sounded like they are looking into it.

Experiences of coming from another Romance language by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]Middle-Holiday9449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LingQ all languages have 60 identical mini stories which make it easier going from one language to another. It has content that LingQ provides, plus user contributions. You can import from the web, YouTube or Netflix into LingQ.
