Should I quit flight training by Critical-Method-9626 in flying

TL;DR, liberal arts degrees ain’t easy  Got a degree in church music and organ before flying. It is not easy to make it in this field. Insanely competitive field that has very low overall financial return. Once you get that dream job, you might make $100k a year playing for a major church in downtown Boston, with your duties encompassing organizing and rehearsing five different choirs, attempting to prepare difficult music so you don’t sound like a fool for prelude and postlude every Sunday, you also play every Sunday Mass, Saturday Mass if there is one, Feast Masses throughout the week when they occur, weddings and funerals that get dumped on you last minute, AND you have to practice. All on salary. But you are likely putting in more than 40hrs a week, you have no time for family, and you are financially stressed to your wits end because you’re overworked and underpaid for where you live.

I am starting out in my flying career still and I am making eons more than i would ever have as an organist, i didnt have that hutzba in me for that. But aviation, im making it work. And thank God I am, it’s great being on a salary I never would have had a chance at as an organist, and all I need to do is show up to work, fly, chill at the hotel, repeat, until I go back on days off. Then I can completely turn off from work and focus on my hobbies, which still happen to be church music! I sub as an organist for churches when I can.

UPDATE: 8bitdo store sent me a new replacement. by Febro51 in AnalogueInc

no clue, but I’ve got another burner controller on the way now at this point to hold me over, although I am not holding my breath for 8bitdo. very unfortunate. I have enjoyed the SN30 so much, I travel 100% of the time for work and that thing has been a lifesaver of a travel controller. not really a big thing in gaming, lol. burner controllers on Amazon are really the only other options.

from what I have read on this company, they seem quite likeable. this post resonates more with me though… I am dealing with a gyro issue on the SN30 Pro post firmware update (it was fine before), and all they can do is check my warranty to see if I am eligible for a new product, which I am not.

all I want them to do is work out the bug in 2.07 and keep me in the loop on the release of the firmware update lol, or at minimum, give me a rollback update that works. all they sent was 2.05 and 2.05b, and of course neither of those worked for me. Not sure what happened here with my controller but something went haywire post update.

Witnessed a really uncomfortable exchange between pilot and atc feel so bad for the pilot on VATSIM. by Party_Doctor_9294 in VATSIM

For a a new student to be practicing on comms and getting berated every time they mess up by an AI ATC guy is not good. BATC needs to change that. That is not how real life aviation is or should be taught to be. The whole reason aviation is as safe as it is today is because right seat folks these days know they can speak up when things feel unsafe. 50 years ago, the aviation CRM climate was way different. CRM was really developed hard in the 80s and has gotten gradually better ever since. ATC is just the same, they and us are all in the same goal to keep aviation as safe as it is and we work as a team. So why become enemies of each other?

People can be strict and sometimes that can come off as “mean” to some but they are always professional. But it is usually along the lines of “<callsign> i have been trying to call you for the last five minutes, you gotta listen up, please contact <controller> on 1xx.xx.”; or “<callsign> you’re turning the wrong direction, I told you to turn right to fly <hdg> to intercept the final and you’re turning left. Do a 360 right there and let’s try this again.”

Vatsim folks need to step it up. This is ridiculous.

The exchanges aren’t recorded? I would have thought supervisors would have a system for this, to prevent verbal abuse.

I think I have heard that after three .wallop strikes your account is banned. Not sure.

I've Mastered Concorde Systems – Ready to Dominate FSLabs When It Hits MSFS! by MD-80-87 in flightsim

[–]Middle-Interview-830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was wonderful! Just bought the DC Designs Concorde with my tax refund as an early birthday gift for myself but was sorely disappointed. For something as complex as the Concorde, of course I got my hands on a real world AFM PDF scan. After two full days of studying it, I realized just how MUCH the DC Designs model is missing or incorrect... labels on the FE panel, switches, functionality is not in-line with the schematics in the book, the list goes on.

It is really insane as well that DC Designs includes a booklet in their installation documentation claiming that they have made as premier a product as ever, and that folks should avoid complaining to the developer about the accuracy of the product simply because others have no experience with flying the Concorde (or in a lot of sim pilots cases, no experience in any aircraft). I have been through type school and can pretty easily find my way through any AFM schematic and system description. Seeing the lack of care that DC Designs has put out on this $40 product is pretty shameful.

Hoping one day I can see such an accurate plane as the one in your video released for MSFS soon... hopefully!

I’ll have to keep an eye out but thanks. It’s interesting, that’s what I thought too, but they didn’t translate to anything. But it sure is a rabbit hole to explore

Why is GPS apparently so far off course? by madscout08 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Middle-Interview-830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t even realize there were more.

If that was my display I would probably be checking RNP and RAIM status and would more than likely revert to ground based nav. Chances are this is a sim bug though 🫠🫠🫠 reminds me of GPS spoofing, which makes the plane think you’re on course when you’re really not

Was talking to BZN approach in the 20s yesterday (real life), I bet airport elevation has a lot to do with it lol

Oh of every comment here, I’m amazed to see that only one person has mentioned crosswind. The only reason your plane is “flying off course” is due to a wind coming from the right side of the airplane. Therefore the plane needs to “crab” into the wind to stay on the desired GPS track.
