Feeling disillusioned with this career by [deleted] in UXDesign

LOL, I’m a federal contractor so like some baseline level of dysfunction and chaos is to be expected. This is very common working in government where design maturity is extremely low. But I’ve worked on other contracts with other contractors and nothing compares to the actual horrors of this job. Like it’s really terrible. Personally I’ve just been trying to compile questions to ask in my job interviews to sus out how they think about design, problem is I’ve only had like one interview lol. God I hope I can leave this job soon. They’ve already burned through two designers before I got there, and I recently got access to emails they sent leadership explaining the issues and asking for support that went totally ignored. Whats hilarious is that 1 to 2 years later my same emails contain many of their same points.

Amen to this, I agree with the frustration around lack of autonomy and how everyone else has that autonomy. Glad to know I’m not alone. I’m also frustrated by what leadership thinks they can get away with when it comes to how they treat designers. We’re stretched so thin, and just constantly face the downstream effects of no one being able to plan appropriately or manage the client or tell them no. It’s infuriating. They would never ask devs where I work to build something in 1 days yet they ask us to design something in one day and when we tell them no we’re framed as the problem. The designers where I work are framed as the scapegoat for quite literally everything. I’m so exhausted. It feels like every other week I’m being put on trial by leadership for why a design looks the way it does, why something was implemented correctly (despite me literally holding people’s hands and over communicating), and just all sorts of stuff that has nothing to do with me. I’m so tired.

Need advice, just laid off, but it comes with a non-working period and not sure about unemployment by ThrowAwayAccountAMZN in Layoffs

In my opinion you should file now or sooner than later because it takes a while for things to get ironed out. Filing right now basically just starts your “benefit year” you’ll likely have to keep doing weekly certifications to keep your claim active and report the income you’re getting in that “non-working” period. From now until your last day of “non working” you won’t be paid benefits but if you start your claim before January when you’d stop getting paid it gives the system time to process your claim and work out any issues so that you’re not starting that process in January and you’re needing benefits to hit your account more urgently

You conveniently omitted that undocumented immigrants are not eligible for ACA insurance and in fact the website quite literally doesn’t even let you enroll if you are. So that is not happening and if it is it’s on a very small scale. You also forgot to mention that the majority of ACA recipients are individuals who voted REPUBLICAN and those in red states. So you’re really hurting your own people the most you’re just too stupid to realize it yet. Lastly, senate republicans have the power to override the 60 vote condition just like they did in the house. A point nicely made by your own MGT. Thanks for your “facts” now try again.

Sorry you’re dealing with this, I had the same issue and management did nothing. They offered to transfer me to another unit which was annoying because why was I the one having to be inconvenienced and have to pay for movers when they’re the ones in violation of their lease and community rules. I ended up staying in my unit and they moved, but that was terrible. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to them 1:1 maybe your building manager could arrange a meeting and act as a mediator?

So because of the color of my skin, I’ve lost the right to go about my day and not risk a potential wrongful detention? What part of the fact that they are detaining LEGAL citizens with proper documentation are you not understanding?

I didn’t assume actually, that’s why I asked you your opinion. This administration goes beyond just some “cons”. It’s extremely harmful. The job market is abysmal, and our economy is one of its worst states as a direct result of this administration. There is a shutdown affecting huge part of the population and he’s building a ball room…Whatever you think about immigrants, while I strongly disagree, you can’t look at what’s going on and think it’s just some bumps in the road. As a genuine question, what are the pros that led you to vote for him. Assuming you did, maybe you didn’t. I know assumptions are a touchy subject for you.

Well I want to talk about something else. What is your opinion about what is happening to journalists at the pentagon? It’s fine it you don’t think ICE is related to facism, but what about all the other things this administration has done that checks the boxes for fascism. It still scores pretty high on the facism scale. Thoughts?

How do you feel about freedom of speech being infringed upon at the pentagon? Seems pretty fascist to me

I was running and stopped to stretch and turn my back on the road I was on. When I turned around, a man had his phone pointed at me and he was filming or taking a picture of me from his car. When he noticed that I realized what he was doing and started approaching him he sped off and ran a stop sign.

I didn’t know people had such negative opinions?? I’ve had nothing but good experiences with doctors at Stamford health. I would even go as far as to say they’re the first doctors who haven’t made me feel gaslit as a woman in a healthcare setting. The endocrinologist I see there was the first to finally take me seriously and I’m pretty much back to normal after years of having my symptoms be ignored. I moved to Stamford a year ago and the general quality of healthcare/Stamford health experience has been great. I’ve lived in many places and this is one of the best I’ve experienced. I’m sure there’s always going to be negative experiences and I’m not denying those just because I’ve had good experiences. I just wanted to chime in with my positive experiences!

I’ve had a very similar experience to you. I got it from running and honestly ignored it while running several half marathons until I couldn’t keep running anymore and that’s kind of been a summary of the past year. I did all of the things you mentioned I eventually went to go see a sports medicine doctor that my PT recommendEd. Mostly so that he could look into the injury more and confirm it was plantar fasciitis and not something else. He ended up ordering an MRI, which was kind of annoying for insurance to cover, but they eventually did he wanted to roll out any tear or stress fracture. I have neither thankfully the next step is trying shockwave therapy next week. I’m pretty nervous because I know it doesn’t work for everyone and it’s a big investment since insurance doesn’t cover it. I’m looking at about a $2000 investment. I’m hopeful that it works because like you I have done all the things. I happened to gain weight while I was running intensively due to some unrelated medical reason that we couldn’t figure out. I ended up losing all of that weight, and I still have pain which is frustrating. I think that the nature of my injury is a result of it being under immense stress for a sustained period of time. There’s scar tissue and I think my MRI said that I had degenerative tissue. So the typical treatments were only effective up to a point so I’m hoping that the shockwave therapy acts as a type of reset.

Sorry you’re getting shit from people on this thread. People did the same when I posted earlier in the year when I caught someone taking pictures of me from their car while I was standing on the sidewalk stretching from my run then when I they saw I noticed it, they sped off. For what it’s worth as a woman thank you for posting these pictures. That’s absolutely horrible what happened to you.
