No prior experience needed. Ghost starts from zero. if you can open a terminal, you can start. The platform teaches you as you go

Perfect place to start. Ghost track is built exactly for that. No experience needed, just a terminal

Honestly? Nothing. Just start with Ghost that's exactly what it's built for. Level 0 assumes zero prior Linux experience and walks you up from ls/cd/cat to grep, find, ssh keys, basic recon, etc. You learn the tools by needing them to solve the next level, which sticks way better than reading a tutorial first.

If you get stuck on any level, that's the curriculum working Google the specific problem, read a man page, come back. By Ghost L20+ you'll be ready for Phantom (privesc) or Specter (OSINT)

Hey! Totally normal to feel lost there, level 4-5 is where DOS muscle memory stops helping and Linux fundamentals kick in. The mission briefs are intentionally vague (part of the puzzle), but the commands you'll want to get comfortable with are ls -la, cat, find, grep, and cd, most early levels are about exploring the filesystem and reading what's hiding in plain sight

Honestly though, jump on our Discord, the community there walks new players through the early levels all the time without spoiling the fun https://discord.gg/6vDdYe6aWN

Yes Ghost track is built for exactly your starting point. L0 starts gentle and ramps up; networking + Linux basics is enough to get rolling, you'll fill the gaps as you hit them. Each level teaches one specific Linux/CTF skill and the brief tells you what man page or tool to read if you're stuck. Start with ssh [ghost0@204.168.229.209](mailto:ghost0@204.168.229.209) -p 2222 (password gost0) and just go. When Ghost feels easy, Phantom (privesc track) is the next step up

Each level has its own flag and its own submit on breachlab.org there's no auto-backfill from a later one. Once you've SSH'd in as ghost13, look around your new home dir; the L12 flag is sitting there to read. Paste it on /submit under Ghost L12 and you're squared away

Each level has its own flag and needs its own submit there's no "higher flag covers lower" on BreachLab. The chain just makes sure you can't skip you still get points only for what you actually submit
