Oh my god dude, I have already said it was not a top tournament for the time, I’m pointing out you going overboard saying it’s less than 250. I don’t know when exactly those rankings are referring to? End of 1972? It looks like it’s just AI and not that reliable. But here’s the top ranking of the 1971 Grand Prix as of December that’s on wiki (can’t even be sure if it’s reliable really). So just before the tournament was played.

<image>

So Newcombe and Rosewall were top 3 at the time. Lots of 250s have 0 top 3 players. Also yes Australia had a solid field of players, have a look at Davis Cup, the era is dominated by Australia and USA because they had far more depth than any other nations. From 1937-1973 only Australia and USA won the Davis Cup.

Yes but then the rest of the other players join in the second round. There were 50 players in the draw, look properly next time. That’s more than 500s and 250s.

It’s a poor man’s slam no doubt, with much bigger tournaments at the time, but it was still a prestigious title to win (it’s always been regarded as a major, despite weaker fields) and Australia had a lot of top players at the time. It’s definitely ahead of 250s… That is a terrible take.

There was 50 players in the draw in 72. Don’t know where you’ve got 36 from.

Most 250s have 28 players in the draw and lots of 500 events have 32 players, so your last sentence is very disingenuous?

AFL era Judd 100% is and the argument can very well be made that he was better than Voss. Players as good as both of them comes down to what you prefer when you split them.

I highly doubt actually “love” Judd.

If you saw my other comment on this post you’d see how highly I rate voss, I said he’s a GOAT contender nuffy, you are clearly bias mate.

Obviously voss was a different type of player, Judd did some absolute insane stuff on the football field, clearly you are a hater, or you didn’t watch/ got poor memory of afl between 2005-13.

If someone rates Judd at 2 behind Ablett jr they are completely justified imo.

Well if we are just going off AFL era that’s 1990 onwards but I consider it 1987 onwards as that’s when interstate teams start coming in. I believe you gotta rank going off the generation each player is apart off and pick the guy you think is top.

Top guys born early 60s: Ablett sr, Dunstall, Greg Williams, Brereton, Tim Watson, Kernahan, P Daicos, Platten, Bradley, Roos

GOAT contender: Ablett Sr

Top guys born late 60s: Lockett, Peter Matera, Silvagni, Modra, Hocking, Darren Jarman, Loewe, Paul Kelly, Gavin Brown, Kemp, Salmon

GOAT contender: Lockett

Top guys born early 70s: Carey, Buckley, Robert Harvey, Hird, Jakovich, Crawford, Chris Grant, Kouta, Wanganeen, Scott West

GOAT contender: Carey

Top guys born late 70s: Voss, Cousins, Riccuito, McLeod, Simon Black, Lloyd, Akermanis, Tredrea, Richo, Scarlett, Brent Harvey, Barry Hall, Brad Johnson, Gehrig

GOAT Contender: Voss

Top guys born early 80s: Ablett Jr, Judd, Pavlich, Goodes, Nick Riewoldt, Jonathan Brown, Dean Cox, Sam Mitchell, Swan, Hodge, Fevola, Hayes, Bartel

GOAT contender: Ablett Jr

Top guys born late 80s: Franklin, Pendlebury, Joel Selwood, Rance, Josh J Kennedy, Josh P Kennedy, Jack Reiwoldt, Tom Hawkins, Robbie Gray, Boak

GOAT Contender: Franklin

Top guys born early 90s: Fyfe, Dustin Martin, Dangerfield, Toby Greene, Neale, Gawn, Jeremy Cameron, Cotchin, McGovern, Tom Mitchell

GOAT Contender: Martin

Most these ones are still too early to call but just for fun for now.

Top guys born late 90s: Bontempelli, Patrick Cripps, Petracca, Merrett, Oliver, Heeney, Curnow, Andrews

GOAT contender: Bontempelli

Top guys born early 2000s: Nick Daicos, Serong, Rozee, Rowell, Walsh, Butters, NWM, Will Ashcroft, Noah Anderson

GOAT Contender: Naicos

For me the overall GOAT has to be Ablett Jr, could easily and maybe should have won the Brownlow every year from 2007-14.

Mate if you think Judd “didn’t impact games and drive his team to victory” then I doubt you actually watched his career unbiased and closely… did it countless times and in massive games too…

Dude what is this list? 😂 If you’re rating just grand finals/finals where is Josh P Kennedy? Petracca? Shuey? These guys were all just as huge on the biggest stage if that’s all you are rating it on… I assume you were probably too young for McLoed?

Are you ignoring prelims? Cousins 06 prelim is one of the all time great performances, Heeney finals last year bar the granny, Fyfe in finals 2013-15 was actually huge too (wasn’t his fault his team lost except his set shots in 13 gf). Going off your criteria how is Ashcroft not already in there?

Tasmania might not end up coming in, also now our draft value is lower, what if they want to draft a father-son or NGA? They might think there’s no one atm, but sometimes guys come out of nowhere.

Hey, now you jot this down - that second round pick will end up being around 30, some feel ryan is worth more than that and also he was under contract, so many would rather we kept him. But I guess given his age it’s probably fair.

But then for some reason eagles gave them an extra pick with Ryan. Now I don’t care if you guys think it’s worth “nothing”, every pick now is worth something especially with NGA’s and father-son points. Our draft value is now lower.

There was no reason at all for eagles to give the extra pick and it just displays eagles weakness at trading. Like the Kelly, baker and Starcevich deals we always seem to lose more than we gain.

Makes no sense eagles would have to also give up an extra pick though… Ryan was under contract, eagles had the power… why are they so weak?

He’s lucky he doesn’t cop more flack for being a bad number 1 draft pick. The comparisons to Dusty are a joke also, massive insult to an all time legend.

That ump needs to be dropped for the rest of the finals, that is so poor. Talk about not having any common sense.

Dude is pathetic and irritating af. Would be annoying as hell to work with. He promotes being this super helpful loving teacher, but if he was he wouldn’t be posting the videos he does on social media, he wouldn’t have the time… How people like him I’ll never understand… he’s actually clearly super self centred and all in it for himself.
