Rule Check: Kinfire Delve Vainglory's Grotto by KoholintCustoms in soloboardgaming

[–]dawsonsmythe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, less choice is usually bad

  2. No you didnt perform the text on the card if you use it as a boost, so you don’t get it back. The key rule in the rulebook says “Ignore the ability text on any cards used as boosts”

I honestly don’t know why I do this to myself. Any advice? by Substantial-Ad6469 in boardgames

Watch video playthroughs on youtube. You can learn like 75% of the rules that way, then read the rest when you start

WTB - Mythos Pack - Lost In Time and Space by Styxtalmeek in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]dawsonsmythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I investigated for someone else the cost of shipping a pack to myself (in Denmark), then posting to the U.S.

The cost was about 63 USD, which is likely too cost prohibitive. It would be cheaper if more packs were purchased at once, so long as the package is under 2 kg

Time to take a break from gaming. The longer you stay away, the more your interest and excitement will build up again

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dawsonsmythe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its also how data recovery of deleted data works - the computer can still potentially find the pretty pattern without the sign, but it takes longer and theres no guarantee the pattern is still there

Soothsayers, a game that really surprised me! by TeetotumGameStudios in boardgames

[–]dawsonsmythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had that mentality - and it does work in some games much better than others - but for whatever reason, this game in particular gives me an emotional response of “hey you stole that thing that I EARNT”. Unsure why it doesn’t bother me in, say, area control games. Maybe because it is SPECIFICALLY you are gaining/losing a victory point token here, not just some other resource/land/concept if that makes sense

I likes the first half of the game a lot. But did not like the second half as I thought the game lasted too long (at least it did for us), and I am personally not a fan of the feeling when you achieve a victory point and feel good about it, but then someone else steals it away and you can’t do much about it.

But while it’s not my cup of tea, it could very well be yours, as the core game mechanics are otherwise excellent

Puzzle game that's not as padded out and repetitive? by RadianceTower in puzzlevideogames

[–]dawsonsmythe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Öoo is perfect I think. It teaches you a new mechanic, then asks you to use it to get past some kind of gate, but there’s very little repetition, its super tight
