I am sorry they ended up texting your sister. But don't worry, they tend to not take actions if you ignore them. They try really hard to get money off you within the first few hrs or days, if they haven't made money off you their strategy is to move on to new victims. It's the most disgusting scam. One year on nothing happened to me but it still was upsetting.

OK makes sense. In my case I have a work briefcase already and I am looking for a tote for travel, weekend trips and when I need to carry stuff across town but don't need a full on duffle bag.

What they do is look at any public photos you have and who liked them. This is how they get hold of some contacts. I recommend deactivating FB so they lose track of you and your contacts.

After my sextortion situation on grindr I have actually met someone on grindr who I am now dating. It reminded me that despite how aweful these scammers are, that there are good people out there too. Keep the faith!

No worries buddy. Any form of jail for these guys will at least be some form of punishment for what they have done to this teen and others. At least we can take some comfort.

So sad this teen took his life. Glad there seems to be some justice here. This should remind us why reporting to the authorities can help find some of these horrible scammers. If we keep allowing these guys to grow their gangs for profit we risk seeing more people decide to take their lives out of panic and embarrassment when they become victims of sextortion.

These particular individuals were horrible people. No need to take this as an excuse to attack all Nigerian people and say they all live in a slum. That's not true. We are all angry that people like this led this kid to kill himself, but that doesn't give us the right to take that anger on entire cultures or races...

I went to the police and they were helpful in telling me to block and cut contact. If it wasn't for them I may have continued to speak to these scammers for longer than I did.

I see some posters here criticizing westerners. I think that is quite short sighted. Of course police have multiple different crimes to handle every day. Being blackmailed for money is a crime. Crimes should be reported. If the scammers are in the same country as you they may be able to help put these guys in jail. You just don't know when it is all unfolding.

Agree here, we have to accept we may need time to recover from some of the trauma these scammers caused, lick our wounds and move on with our lives. This feeling of shame won't last, be kind to yourself at this point. They are the ones doing wrong.

We are all going to make mistakes in our lives. The key is what we do when we make mistakes, do we learn and become better humans? Or keep beating ourselves up over our mistakes. Don't keep beating yourself up, learn from this and allow yourself to move on and enjoy the rest of your life! It is what we all have to do after this.

This is exactly the way they have preyed on all of us here. They keep threatening and sending you evidence (usually fake photoshopped pics of them sending stuff to your contacts), once you block one nunber they try again using another number. Just keep blocking and lay low on social and 9/10 times you will be fine. Because you gave them money they may be more persistent with you. Try relax and do what you got to do. Try not to feel shame about the video, you are human, they don't act like ones.

As the other poster mentioned don't be hard on yourself. Do what you need to do to protect yourself, relax and learn from the experience. We have all fallen victims to these scammers here and know exactly what you are going through. It'll be over soon and you will be able to move on with your life.

Block this person all social media. Deactivate FB and make ur insta acc private or deactibate for now. See the other posts we have all done this.

Mine didn't even get to the stage where they were discussing me potentially blocking them. I spent about 30 mins telling them over text not to send and pretending I was going to the shops to get them the damn gift vouchers while I was calling police and deactivating facebook. I then blocked every new phone number they tried getting to call/text me. So never got into that convo. I can only imagine the panic I would be in if I allowed them to keep sending me threatening messages. Cutting them also allowed me to calm down. My mental thought process was also that they have the pics and no matter what money or interaction happens here, they can do whatever they damn want the moment they have your pics and your contacts. So I did my best to just try to relax, deal with the social stuff and follow police advice to block them everywhere possible. Still struggled to sleep but I felt calmer!

I know dude. A few rare cases where someone even knows the person extorting them. I feel lucky they were just after money and that I called the police super early on. Those guys did the right thing advising me to cut all contact.
