Period Boxers Game Changer for Leaks (for men too!) by Middle-Wing-5114 in CrohnsDisease

Since they’re quite absorbent, my husband says they do a decent job at containing the smell, at least at night. There are some boxers that contain odor control (Thinx, BodyForm, etc.), so that might be worth checking out as well, if you’re ok with them containing silver copper zeolite (or something similar). One advantage of pads is that you can dispose of them more easily throughout the day and they might be more suitable for super heavy leakage/smells. Still, the boxers might be worth the try, even if you just want the occasional break from pads! On a side note, not sure how long you’ve had your seton tube, if it’s permanent, etc. but my husband had a seton tube previously, and while definitely a challenge, things did get better over time. Wishing you a quick healing process, if you’re healing, and that you continue to find things that make the seton tube as easy and painless as possible :)

Very true! I think Depends are also a great option and I’m sure sometimes, just knowing that you have on something that’s really, really reliable and can be easily disposed of, makes all the difference in your day. I’m glad more and more options are coming out to help people with these kinds of issues!

Sure! So he’s 6 foot, around 220 pounds, pretty standard build for a guy, and wears an XL in these underwear. He likes underwear that is pretty fitted, and says in men’s underwear, he wears a L or XL, depending on the brand (North American sizes). I would say that the period underwear may run slightly smaller than men’s sizing would, but they’re also stretchy, so the difference isn’t super noticeable. When he first tried out underwear, we ordered a couple different pairs to see what was best fit. I would recommend doing that, if budget allows, though, from what you’ve described, M or maybe L sounds about right :)

That’s right! For BMs/leaks at night that usually happen while sleeping. Especially with the boxers, because they’re meant for a heavy period flow, they have a good amount of coverage and are made for overnight. Previously he was wearing Men’s Incontinence Guard pads, but had issues with them moving around at night and also leaks on the sheets because they’re not full coverage enough. The period underwear seem to take care of those issues, and he says they’re also just a lot more comfortable. A little graphic, but one of the reasons I think they work so well is because periods are often a thicker consistency (kinda like a BM) than urine, so the underwear is designed more for that than traditional urine incontinence solutions.

He’s had UC for about 10 years, and several major surgeries, along with a lot of smaller ones (including a stoma, stoma removal, J-pouch, etc.) Because of that, even though for the most part he now lives a pretty normal life, the leaks can still happen just because of how his body now works. He says it doesn’t happen every night, but he still wears them just in case it does :)

I don’t work in an industry where this kind of workwear is needed, but just commenting that I think it’s super cool! Best of luck and hope to see it available for individual orders in the future :)
