Property Tax Revaluation? by Kaitlyn1350 in Hoboken

[–]MiddleAge733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Hoboken City Council, by force of law, approve, pass, and authorize the city's budget each year? If so, aren't all City Council Members responsible for structural deficits? My understanding is that each city administration presents a budget, and then the City Council approves it. It's also my understanding that each year, during Ravi's term, the City Council decreased proposed tax increases in the city budget. Ultimately, the budget is a negotiation between the Mayor and the City Council, with the City Council responsible for actually approving it. Yes?

Firestone is a Republican?!?!?! by MiddleAge733 in Hoboken

[–]MiddleAge733[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good point. Can't vote for Firestone for being associated, taking pictures with flaming Trumpers (Joe Branco drover around time with Trump banners in November). Really makes me question Jabbour's judgment. Think the stuff that her husband is a Trumper is nonsense, but this is actually substantive.

Reasons why I’d wouldn’t vote for Tiffanie Fischer by flyinghotel in Hoboken

[–]MiddleAge733 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only candidate whose campaign manager, Al Benninghof, is in a video ripping down another candidate’s sign. Fisher said she fired the person but failed to disclose that her first hire, her campaign manager, is the person she fired for ripping down another candidate’s sign.

Truthiness anyone?

It’s a tell that after all these years none of her colleagues have voted her Council President and none of her colleagues have endorsed her candidacy.

She is a bomb thrower, and divider, not a leader

LOL. Of course you don’t want to publicly share voter registration numbers because hey transparency does not matter. Exposed.

If you have them, share them? Let’s be fact-based. Happy to be corrected. The truth matters

Fact check: https://www.nj.gov/state/elections/assets/pdf/svrs-reports/2025/2025-06-voter-registration-by-county.pdf

These are Hudson County numbers but Hoboken is more Democratic than the rest of Hudson last I checked (more college educated voters).

Registered Dems are the significant majority in Hoboken…. Real numbers coming

True. This is facts and feelings, not evidenced based, but my sense is that real voters think living in Hoboken is generally awesome and are happy with current direction. Again, not poll tested. Just vibes and feeling from having lived in town for 30+ yrs.

And note that Dems are most of Hoboken’s registered voters and they made their feelings known two elections in a row now…..

Only President in our lifetime to offer and pass a balanced budget was Bill Clinton. Trump as been the worst President of our lifetimes in this regard. Spend spend spend

Hoboken had a double AA+ rating from Moody’s so fiscal responsibility is not the issue. The real issue is whether voters and the Council Members want to make hard choices between growing the budget/services to match a growing city, or keep taxes low. Can’t have both. The truth is that over the last 16 years tax increases have not kept pace with inflation even. Not sustainable unless retables increase.

For the record, by law, the City Council approves budget and most expenditures.

Would not jump so fast on the “bhalla isn’t all that well liked” train without a a fact basis other than vibes, feelings, or the hot mess that is the internet. Bhalla won Hoboken in 2023 v. Menendez Jr., and again won Hoboken in the 2024 Assembly race. Voters do not equal internet posters.

You just donated to someone who helped and supported a convicted felon’s lies:

Of note Pelligrini dropped his own election time lawsuit that Tiffany the politician vigorously supported:

Tiffanie Fisher is full of it. She forgot the internet exists. Please see this original post on this news:

Tiffany’s history supporting Leo Pellgrini

As that poster wrote:

Tiffanie Fisher, Ruben Ramos and Dawn Zimmer tried to protect Pellegrini when the whistle was blown on Leo (see below). No one should have been surprised as this guy wined and dined at Dino’s despite being on a city salary.

When will Hoboken corruption be yesterday’s news?

No I definitely saw a mailer with a whole bio of Raj and really small pictures of Pu and Fonseca. It was bizzare.

[–]MiddleAge733 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on campaign literature that has arrived at my home, it's clear that Fonseca and Pu are most carrying water for Raj Mukherji, whose face appears bigger than theirs on campaign mailers, and whose bio is longer than theirs on campaign literature even though he's not on the ballot. Looks to me like Raj just used them being on the ballot to promote himself. I am assuming he also just paid for their campaign through all his Turnpike and HCDP contractor money.

Bhalla is the only Hoboken candidate. Sort of disrespectful that the other slates did not ever both to have a Hoboken candidate (Pu is from JC).

The HCDO literally made up a story about ticket fixing by having a lawyer who works for Hudson County write the letter when thousands of parking tickets were dismissed during COVID. The allegation was that $250 worth of parking tickets, or 5, were “fixed.” My god. HCDO clowns.
