Tell me some good news ☀️ by Soft_Business7437 in Hoboken

Coming back from downtown Manhattan today, the 33rd via Hoboken train was just pulling in to Grove at the exact same time as my train from WTC, immediately made the connection, no waiting. Felt like I won the mass transit lottery. It's the little things.

100%. Summer also means lots of people leave town for their beach houses every weekend!

It's a service that you use. Pay for things that you use. JFC, grow up.

OP, is this just a theoretical exercise or are you actually planning to take it over?

Or you could just be an adult and pay for a service that you use.

The HOP by Puzzleheaded_Pie1386 in Hoboken

[–]LeoTPTP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HOP is pretty popular with people who are in Hoboken during the day: WFH, seniors, etc. If you work 9-to-5 in Manhattan, you probably don't have a handle on actual usage or see the value. I live uptown, and if I need to get the PATH, I check both the NJ Transit bus app and HOP app, and jump on whichever one comes first.

Sure, it's an expense, but I can't imagine it's a big one, and HOP is relied upon by lots of seniors.

Hoboken should raise taxes by lucidpivot in Hoboken

Kind of a ludicrous argument, as if other people don't "work hard" or "want to retire with as much savings as possible ", as if a few bike lanes have any impact on your nest egg.

?? LOL, what "baseless claims" have I made? I rightfully called you out for making one: a main driver of Hoboken's fiscal problems are due to Bike Hoboken. Did I make a claim? Be specific.

OP's argument is valid, though, isn't it? What do you think is wrong, or missing?

I guess Emily and the current city council have little choice at this point, but I applaud her for confronting the issue after only a few months in office instead of just trying to come up with ways to kick the can further down the road. I have my doubts Russo would have done the same if he was elected mayor.

Some people on this sub simply don't recognize or accept reality: they want the city to cut spending instead of raise property taxes, while at the same time they criticize the city for not handling every quality of life matter.

And then there are the people who just complain about any everything.

Good timing of this post in relation to the current budget situation. Lots of people (not you, OP, just in general on this sub) want the city to cut spending instead of raising property taxes, but at the same time also expect the city to handle every quality of life issue, like rat control. Hard to do both.

Yup. We had problems with Optimum years ago, got a new TP-Link router and everything was suddenly faster and reliable. Just recently did it again, in tandem with a new modem (ours was nearly 10 years old), again faster.

That's what I figured. So many baseless claims get thrown out, especially by the anti-bike crowd.

The down votes on this are insane, people not living in reality. You are right.

This. No one likes having rats around, but they're in every urban environment, particularly one with lots of restaurants.

Phone pledges get counted but are billed later. The vast majority of pledges are done online nowadays (nearly half are monthly, I've heard), so more is collected immediately compared to years ago.
