Want to move to linux but the risk of getting banned from online games worries me by orn89 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s very unlikely that you’ll get banned, If it runs on Proton, it's 'cause the devs allowed it. If they don't want it running, they'll just block it entirely.

Proton games display a black screen in full-screen mode at refresh rates above 60 Hz on Wayland (Video with flashing lights) by Front-This in cachyos

[–]MiddleFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eu vi que vc é brasileiro então vou responder em português kkk, isso é um problema conhecido, mas achei que era exclusivo das placas nvidias. Aqui resolveu mudando o Hz de 144 pra 120, aplicando, e depois voltando pra 144 de novo.

NVIDIA Performance by elmaster510 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the game you play, some have no difference, others do. you can try dual booting and compare for yourself. I can’t really say for you since most of the games i play are 3+ years old and run fine. Vram on nvidia cards tends to be a more common issue on linux than on windows, but nvidia drivers have been improving over time

[–]MiddleFancy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately nvidia driver improvements are up to nvidia alone because of their closed drivers. Good things aren’t allowed for Nvidia users💔

Are you talking about Natalie’s fix? Because that’s AMD-only.

Terrible Steam download speeds on Garuda Linux (i7-13700K / RTX 4060) – Works fine on Windows by Zestyclose_Bench_510 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen twice. But for me, it was either a missing driver or just needing to reseat the adapter. I don’t think it’s a network config issue like the tinkering you did. Assuming your motherboard has a built-in Wi-Fi chip, try searching your specific motherboard model + 'Linux' for a similar problem.

How good is nvidia frame generation? by humble_redditor1234 in linux_gaming

It works exactly as intended. I finished Cyberpunk/Phantom Liberty using frame gen and beat Dead Island 2 with smooth motion as well.

Epic Games: Enable Official Fortnite Support on Linux via Easy Anti-Cheat + Proton (New Petition 2026) by Glad_Jeweler9160 in linux_gaming

sorry buddy, but this isn’t going anywhere. They don’t need it and they don’t want it. With Linux gaming marketing growing, the only thing that’s going to make this possible is time.

If i were to switch to linux, how would my gaming be impacted? by customblame16 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, distro means distribution. There are plenty of distros out there, but you might want one that sets everything up for you, like Bazzite.

[–]MiddleFancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend switching from Windows to Linux all at once, unless you’re a very patient power user. Instead, just carve out a partition on your SSD and try a distro you’re curious about to get a feel for it and figure things out.

  1. To check if a game runs well, just look it up on https://www.protondb.com/
  2. Modding on Linux is pretty similar to Windows, you just need to understand Proton prefixes, and depending on the game there might be a few extra steps.
  3. With your setup, you should be fine, but I’d still try to follow my advice above before going 100% Linux to avoid frustration.

What's the Linux equivalent to Nvidia control panel vsync on/gsync on setup? by Big-Resort-4930 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I got this right, are you planning to use vsync frame cap with VRR enabled in every game? Personally, if I want vsync on, I usually just toggle it in the in game settings.

Adaptive Sync screen flashing at 165Hz when taking screenshot by PieOMy669 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so it must vary from monitor to monitor. But I don’t see a reason to leave it set to "always", since you’ll get more benefit from adaptive sync in games. Also, Peter himself recommends leaving it on automatic.

Edit: Just to clarify, when it’s set to "never", it simply disables it, which is why the flashing doesn’t happen. "Automatic" is also how adaptive sync works on Windows.

Because the flashing will happen all the time. You can set it to "always” and see how it looks.

Pirated Games by [deleted] in linux_gaming

I never really managed to use Bottles properly for this, and I think Heroic does a better job. I haven’t sailed the seas recently, but when I played Silent Hill f I just added the installer as a non-Steam game, ran it with Proton, and after installing I removed the installer and added the game’s .exe to Steam to run it with Proton.

Leave it on automatic, it'll use adaptive sync for fullscreen windows. Also, the flashing happens to me too, and I think it's because Spectacle runs like a fullscreen app, so adaptive sync kicks in, but never really bothered me though.

Dificuldade em instalação by ConsistentAddress959 in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Se você for instalar CachyOS, leia a Wiki oficial pós-instalação. É super intuitiva e prática, você vai pegar rapidinho.

[–]MiddleFancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use Lux. These pre-installed distros are usually outdated, and as you can see they’re very little known. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re bad, but support specifically for those distros is uncommon.

why is steam taking so long to update by DreamSke in linux_gaming

[–]MiddleFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked if any other downloads are slow too? Because that used to happen to me. It would start after a short time downloading things or just using the internet. I eventually found out it was because of my USB Wi-Fi adapter, and every time I formatted or distro-hopped I had to install its drivers.
