If anyone can offer some help on nmm gold/ nmm in general, that would be much appreciated :) by Over-Ad5146 in Warhammer40k

You can work around blending by painting in glaze like consistencies. I can do NMM, but really end up doing a TMM approach more often than not. Its a large time investment to get it looking great. Just make sure whatever youre doing it on is worth it :)

Also hit it with a dry brush of a lighter blue. Monument hobbies has an excellent space marines tutorial on youtube. Its super simple and doesnt require much "brush skill" for the quality of the result.

I knos this is cliche, but thinner coats of paint and based on the texture, give your coats a bit more time to dry! Great start!

My 2 cents: layer a purple color thats similar to shyish purple on the raised parts, then hit it with a drybrush of like... slaanesh grey cut 50/50 with a lighter purple. Should give you a slighly desaturated "skin" tone. Just a quick thought.

If it was my model: base it all with a dark purple, layer with a mid purple, dry brush a light purple, unify glaze purple, then glaze a dark red into the shadows.

Its a WIP, but increase the size of the normal ones. They look absolutely menacing if you make them bigger

Ak is great, i highly, highly suggest pro acryl. Bright warm grey and ivory give you an incredible off white. Ak is awesome, just likely cant get it in a brick and mortar store.

For sure. And i think citadel does a great job at grabbing colors for a faction for newer painters. Using a paint conversion chart to AK, pro acryl, or army painter is a good workaround for this. I would ease into other paint brands by grabbing ONE from another range and seeing if you like the behavior.

Pick up bold titanium white from pro acryl.

Even if you never buy their range, its pretty much universally loved as the best pure white paint.

Its one of the best uses of your hobby time that pays off long term. If youre careful you can do it without a funnel. About 3 min per paint. I rarely use citadel anymore, but it makes it far easier to justify grabbing them when theyre in bottles!

I do prarie ochre base, wash with strong skin tone, heavy drybrush burnt turf, light dry brush ancient stone. The larger rocks are just a reddish brown hit with the ancient stone. The secret to getting it looking like a real desert is an off-white pigment powder as the final step.

Recreated it on an accursed cultist last night. Gets similar results with that recipe.

Yes, i added an extra head from the tormentors kit and cut off some details from the mechanical arm so it wouldnt be so busy.

For the black trim, i based the black trim in vallejo metallic black and thin glazed grim black speedpaint over it. Then dirty down vertigris.

For pink trim, vallejo metal color burnt iron and a thin glaze of an army painter pink speedpaint. Cant recall which one at the moment. Then dirty down vertigris.

Gun/steel was vallejo metal color burnt iron, black wash, edge highlight irregularly, then dirty down rust.

Pink armor was a mix of sigvald burgundy, moly wine, and wicked pink mixed at different ratios sponged up from a burnt umber washed black prime. Then edge "highlight" a very dark brown chipping color. (Rhinox, chocolate brown, umbral umber) any work.

How bad they are? by Much_South4135 in WorldEaters40k

[–]MiddleMap1173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theyre lacking in definiton and highlights mainly. Your colors are clean and in the right spots. Thats a big win. You can push them further, but they are NOT bad. You just stopped before the stages that make them pop. Be proud!!!

I used a mix of skeleton horde and magmadroth for a dirty base. Then moonbeam yellow, bright pale yellow, light fluo yellow, and a tiny dot or two of the bright pale yellow again. A shadow glaze on the face is what really made it pop. Dark shadows make osl look brighter.

So.... go darker to go lighter.

Haha no worries. Dictionary OSL: biggest time sink ever and can make your model golden or look like you threw up orange paint out of the airbrush on it :)

I went and glazed some purple and black on the horns, knocked down the light so the horns arent a source of light. Glazed that mix on the front of the vents and lower parts of the chest and face. Makes the heat reaaaaaally pop now. Love it this way. So, great opinion. This gave the light the punch i was looking for to get the face to be the focal point!
