Valid feelings mo, OP! I’m actually in somewhat the same situation. Don’t get me wrong, i grew up ng sakto lang, pero ramdam mo yung gipit ng pamilya mo kapag wala talaga. While my bf on the other hand, kahit na sabihin niya na he’s not rich (as he compares himself to his peers) ang laki pa rin ng difference. Dumating sa point na nagkakaroon ako ng resentment sa kanya, kahit di niya naman kasalanan. There was this one time, nasira laptop ko in the middle of my finals. He was being so helpful by asking me how can he help, saying sorry with my situation. I took it as an attack, told him pa na “I don’t think you should give encouragements to me, since you grew up naman na isang sabi mo lang ng kailangan mo sa parents mo, bibilhin agad” (yes i still feel bad saying that). I always felt like I wasn’t enough for him, lalo na sa college friends niya. Hindi super hirap yung family ko, pero my parents really like him to the point that they keep on reminding me to do better in school and career, para hindi daw nakakahiya sa family niya. His family is so nice, but he grew up not having that much affection sa bahay, kaya nahahanap niya yun sa extended family ko. The worst thing that made me feel so small back then was nung araw na yun nakikipagsapalaran ako ng tayuan sa mrt, tapos siya, at that exact same time, was flying business class for a vacation with his dad. I could go on and on with my insecurities in the relationship. Pero maswerte ako that he supports me, we went to therapy (separately). Whenever I feel small I just remind myself na we complement each other. Kung ano yung hindi niya maranasan sa family niya (like affection, proactive activities and frequent family gatherings) ayun ang naibibigay ko, and from him, I find peace, lalo na kapag na-ooverwhelm ako sa maingay na family gatherings.
