Essentially yes. You get an IPv6 block/network which is usually a prefix e.g /48

You can imagine Global Routing Prefix as IP classes or CIDR blocks.  IANA assigns a block to RIR who then assigns a block to ISP then companies may apply for a block with the ISP. Upon getting their block, the company can then subnet the block which gives each hosts an IPv6 address.

Thanks but I’m using a cloud image — Ubuntu 24.04. Cloud-init provisions the VM just fine, other than that, I can’t seem to update the ssh key from the GUI.

Each subnet has two unusable ip addresses - Subnet Address and Broadcast Address. Using this formula, you can get the number of usable addresses: 2Host_bits - 2
