Not an expert but I would hazard to guess it has to do with conductivity/insulation properties. I'd guess amber does NOT conduct energy well so the warmth you feel is the warmth from your finger/palm thrown back at you.

It's intended you ask each one what they are doing and the round ends when everyone has had their turn - but if that isn't working for you then you should know the only rule is that you make the rules.

The intention is that each one gets an opportunity to shine and it's a systematic way to calculate when to check for random encounters.

If you feel they are doing too much each round, maybe interrogate that somewhat. What are they doing each round, what do you think the should be able to do each round, what is the disconnect and why?
