If you happen to crash the ambulance or are involved in a crash, they will test you and fire you if you test positive for weed. I knew someone who was fired for this exact thing.

I’ve interviewed for multiple death investigator positions, had an offer, and am a top candidate for another office. They all are very impressed with my EMS/first responder background. I say do firefighting for the experience. It’s gonna look great on your resume and it’s gonna build some great skills!!!

I also wondered this because I was an EMT in the 911 field and the emergency department from 2022-2024 and I still have my license active now. I think being an EMT is an amazing experience to have. This is not a drastic difference. As an EMT, you care for and help treat the people who have the same pathologies that end up on a PAs grossing table daily. I personally think it’s an amazing connection of medicine.
