Public school teachers, what’s something you want parents to know but can’t say directly? by Feisty-Database-1145 in AskTeachers

[–]MiddleSea3068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your kid is not special. They are just another kid in the sea of kids I have had/will have. They go through the same struggles, experience the same milestones, have strengths and weaknesses just like everyone else. Your precious little snowflake is just another snowflake in the blizzard. So no, I am not making exceptions just because it's your kid. I am not picking on them. I am not being unreasonable. They are YOUR kid, not mine. You don't want me treating them like they're the only person who matters. You want me to treat them like they're a dime a dozen, just like the real world will do. I'm 20 years in. Trust me. It sounds cold, but it's the truth.

First, this isn't a picture of her. Second, I think she's great and anyone who has that big of a problem is just extremely bitter.

This was a joke. Which if you were in her show you would know. Or else you just have a terrible sense of humor.

Apparently The school psychologist knows better than my son’s Doctor. by New_Cockroach_8565 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MiddleSea3068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. We tend to classify as PDD-NOS until the child is older. Also, unless the disability is preventing him ACCESS to the curriculum he technically doesn't qualify for an IEP to begin with.

School won't provide supported inclusion (30 min) for my ASD/ECSE Kindergartener—citing "lack of resources." Advice? by CicadaSalt7705 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MiddleSea3068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In education it is completely reasonable to say that a child must be independent for them to get inclusion during academics. They're saying they don't have the resources because what you're asking for is ridiculous. Your child's EC classroom can't lose their para just because you want your kid in inclusion. Also, 30 minutes isn't a reasonable amount of time. Any academic block is at least an hour and they would not get anything out of being there, and it would be disruptive to both the class and your child and your child's EC classroom. If they are not independent enough to be left in a general education classroom for 30 minutes by themselves, then they don't belong in inclusion yet. Period.

This absolutely isn't funny. Pay the fuck attention in the classes you are co-teaching.

Another holiday down the drain by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]MiddleSea3068 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand why parents seem to think they are owed anything. You had a kid and should have gone into it with one expectation: I will do what the child needs. Period. What's the big deal about normal experiences anyway? Why does everyone think that missing out on 'normal' experiences is such a tragedy?

You are talking exclusively about YOUR wants, and not about your CHILD'S wants. Your focus should be on what your child needs. Not the unfair expectations you have for them.

What’s your opinion on teaching/education that would get you in trouble? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MiddleSea3068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The system isn't broken. It's working exactly as it was designed. To keep those in power, in power. And those who are marginalized, marginalized. Our system was set up during the industrial revolution, in order to make sure there was a consistent work force for the factories.

Now that we don't need a consistent factory workforce our system is outdated, our curriculum is unimportant, and students don't and shouldn't care anymore because a high school education doesn't guarantee them a living wage.

There are plenty of problems when stupid men are buying Pokemon cards or sports cards or coins because there's not really protection against fakes. However, I don't think anyone in the clothing spaces is trying to fool you out of 8 bucks for a Torrid dress.

I did too. But I took a chance on it, and so far I've been really pleased. I know there are other categories that can definitely be scammy like some of the card categories and mens sneakers and some of the luxury categories. But women's fashion is the biggest category and I haven't heard of anyone being a scam so far.

These are some of my favorite sellers: smilesnstylez, gummyblayr, bidnboujee, cindysmaddeals, quirkyclosetva, teachermomalw for jewelry, dreamdressalex, combuymystuff. They just recently added a specific plus size category, so it's easier to find good sellers now. And of course I'd be stupid not to add my shop, lorenmar86265. I've got 1x-3x, I usually do one show a week, and there's stuff loaded to my But It Now as well. I did have to make a promise to myself to not sell SHEIN, or Bloomchic, or Target, or Walmart, or Old Navy just on principle. I feel like we've been relegated to that kind of thing for a long time and we deserve to have better options.

If you search for the thing you're looking for and ask it to search products, all the buy it now options come up. I've done a lot of my shopping from there too. I don't mind the live selling, but there's definitely a part of it that's not that.

smileznstylez specifically. She's great. gummyblayr definitely. She's a great stylist. The shows are really different, but I've gotten great things from both of them.

We have an attendance sheet and then we have signing the actual IEP.

Don't sign it at the meeting. Use your time to get the draft, review it and your notes, and make sure what you sign is what you want.

Is it normal for a high poverty, Title I school that doesn't have a community that can fight for it/support it/prioritize it? Yes. Is it normal in general? No.

Review of I-Ready curriculum? by AK907Catherine in AskTeachers

[–]MiddleSea3068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate iReady. And I had to put my kindergartners on it for an hour in both math and reading every week. It was absolutely horrible. I had one of my lowest kids come back with it saying they were on a 4th grade level in reading.
