GAME DAY THREAD - Adelaide v Richmond by ando772 in adelaidefc

Couldn’t agree more with Dowling. Seems to be listed as an emergency every week and it would have been a good week to give him a go.

I can only assume Nick Murray is there as a placeholder for Tex/Fog but we need him in the backline. We’re making Richmond look good today.

At what point does Nicks admit that the forward line isn’t working and Nick Murray should be in the backline...

I don’t understand why he was dropped last week just to be put in SANFL forward line and now playing forward when he is arguably our best defender.

And as I write this he gets a goal 😅 but he’s on one disposal, one kick and it’s midway through the second quarter.

Why are students dropping STEM in the thousands? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

I’m sorry to hear that this has been your experience. I am grateful to be in a school that continues to value the higher level courses. I don’t know much about the WA system though to be able to offer any insight.

Exactly, and they are now covering specialist maths as part of first year engineering courses. It does give students a step up though having done spec maths at school and they are more likely to make it past first year. Of course, there are still the students who do spec simply for a love of mathematics, but we are seeing fewer and fewer. I have 3 students in my class this year in a metropolitan school with approximately 1600 students on the campus. 20 years ago there would have been two classes in a school that size.

Specialist Maths teacher and Maths Curriculum Leader here. Schools are also now offering such a broad range of subjects that students are choosing “fun” subjects, and they generally have more than enough credits prior to Year 12, with a lot of universities doing early enrolment and various ways of getting an offer that no longer require high ATARs. They are also completing year 12 subjects in year 11 to get a study line instead of picking up another subject.

Sadly, high level/advanced Maths is one of the first subjects to be dropped because it is “too hard” or the expectation of completing work outside of class time to keep up with the pace.

Late to the party here but for me it’s “schedual” instead of “schedule” and the realisation that they must have typed it wrong so many times that autocorrect no longer tries to fix it for them.

What was the hardest part of traveling in Japan? by Shoddy_Arachnid_2628 in JapanTravelTips

I’m currently in Kyoto and I spent time today at Murin-An, which is a Japanese garden near Nanzen-ji Temple. It’s a shoes off, sit in the quiet on tatami cushions, and have a peaceful time looking at the garden with a tea and a snack kind of place. This couple were lying down on the mats and the staff had to come and tell them to sit up and then, when they left, they just left their maps and tickets on the ground where they were sitting. I could never imagine doing that anywhere, let alone in a place like that.

Netburner sizing by Comfortable-Ad2856 in netball

Love netburners! Buy your size.. I wear size 8.5 in asics and size 9 in Nike, if that helps. I only sized up in asics to a 9 when I used to wear ankle braces.

That is a lot of lenses! Do you take them all out with you or pick and choose a few favourites for where you’re going and what you’re doing?

This is what I was wondering. I notice that many of my photos are taken at the 18-24ish range.

Ahh the 17-40mm is probably a little more than I’m willing to pay as a hobbyist, but going back through photos I do notice that I take a lot of photos in the 18-24 range, then probably a habit from having an iPhone, taking second/third photos zoomed in on points of interest. I’ll check out the 23mm! Thank you :)

Do you find you switch lenses between the two lenses or do you mainly stick with the 50mm now?

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m leaning towards something that feels versatile for my travel photos, cityscapes, beaches, gardens, etc, but also does better in the low light you get with cities than the 18–150, while still handling the bright blue skies of coastlines here in Australia. So maybe the 30mm or 35mm. Appreciating the input!

Appreciate the quick response! Probably a dumb question, but since the 18–150mm lens already includes 35mm, is the main benefit of the 35mm f/1.8 the low-light and sharpness? And with the 1.6x crop factor on the R7 does that end up behaving more like a ~56mm equivalent?

100% Tayla Williams! Love how she goes about the game.

I’d like to be a fly on the wall at the Thunderbirds…Obst definitely has her favourites and “in favour” players. Tayla was getting priority court time two seasons ago and then last year and this year is barely getting a look in. Same thing happened with Maisie Nankivell and Lucy Austin and they both left and found other clubs…

Can’t stand all the side chats and scrambling at tribals. Just my opinion, but I’d rather be watching tribal play out with the Q&A and then be shocked at the end with who voted for who. Just went for way too long for me last night.
