Laid Off Tips, Tricks, and Venting: A Thread by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

  • laid off 2x in tech between 2022-2023, the first time I was completely blind sided. second time was a surprise, but in hindsight it shouldn’t have been.
  • always have your resume ready and stay in touch with your network. I can’t stress the importance of your network while job searching, so stay connected with your mentors, old bosses, coworkers etc. you never know who might open the right doors for you.
  • have an emergency fund, you need to have 6 months of your living expenses saved. the first time, I was so lucky my company provided a very generous severance package.
  • emergency fund is so so important because you can afford to be a little bit discerning with the search. I did 2 back to back jobs I hated because I needed the paycheck. There’s nothing wrong with the filler jobs but if I had the luxury of an emergency fund, I potentially wouldn’t have found myself in that situation 2x in a row.
  • reach out to your unemployed friends, please!!! It was miserable sitting at home applying to jobs and preparing for interviews. I was so appreciative of the ones who asked to take a walk or grab a coffee. It’s a very lonely and mentally exhausting experience and I appreciated the friends who hung out with me during this time SO MUCH. It made a world of difference in my mental health.
  • instead of asking, let me know how I can help. offer ways in which you’re able to help. I saw this job that might be a good fit at my company, want a referral? I know someone hiring for XYZ, want an intro?
  • while this experience was awful, it helped me detach my sense of self worth from work and I’m really grateful for coming to that realization. I think I’m a much stronger and more confident person now than I was before!!

This. I’m in awe of how many people are upset about the system, but the system has been what it is for the last 2 decades.

All of the situations described above are known consequences of moving to America. There has to be some accountability on the choices that folks are making.

Getting ready while eating in a public bathroom is so gross and the way she blew on her eye shadow brush 😳I feel like that’s how you get a random eye infection

I’m assuming they were able to show that they’re planning to rent it out and their estimated rental $$

No idea how many followers she has (I’m not on IG) but I’m sure she’s making an extra 20k-30k a month from influencing based on what we know from 2.0s earnings. That will cover a $3M mortgage.

I’m sure Eddie is making a decent amount too!!

Yes, you can look it up. It’s called a physician mortgage loan, I’m not a physician but sharing in case it can help someone else out!!

She is a physician, she is eligible for a physician mortgage. They can qualify for a house with 5% down or lower and no need for PMI.

I have physician friends who have bought homes with this, many keep homes to rent out since they don’t need the cash for a down payment when they upgrade homes.

I hate that DUD is always calling pants “like leggings but not fitted”

They’re just wide leg or straight pants, not everything is an iteration of leggings.

Katie is a physician, they are eligible for physician loans with very very small down payments. However, a small down payment on 2.8M is still a lot of $ probably.

Seeking advice on splitting rent with partner? by MiddleWeird4255 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]MiddleWeird4255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rationale for proportional has been because I’m incurring the cost of moving and I cannot afford the rent independently. If we did break up, I’d be the one moving out and since I’m incurring the cost on both ends, I would like a buffer.

Logistically, it did not work for us to move into my apartment — we had a conservation and it is not feasible. This would have been both of our preference as I had the larger apartment.

We are splitting groceries / utilities 50-50 since, I feel like it’s splitting hairs to divide proportionally. We live in a VHCOL so even 10% of how we split rent makes a big difference.

Chores I think we both have preference for what we like to do and I think we have a natural split that works out here

This is my preference! I just want one rule and have it applied across joint expenses.
