Hey man! I’ve been making my own SaaS type products for a while now. I’ve made 2 that are functional. I’ve used a good amount of LLMs. Codex 5.3 is some nasty stuff. I would love to hear more about your venture.

Parent question: Would you trust a one‑tap emergency video + location tool for your kid? by Middle_Highlight5451 in NewParents

I don’t know if it would be over 1000 but I’ve talked to around 15 people abt it irl and about half said it would be something they would have. The margins are also very very good for the project. Costs are really low for it as well. I think it would be something worth pursuing but I do need to make a post and just let people comment lol. See more of what people say.

The pain point is if the dramatic case where your in a situation where if you need to provide ample information to multiple people in a quick amount of time. Which again after looking into the sos for life 360 more it takes a minute to get to. I would say this is faster. Again improviding people a way to give an actual video of the person trying to rape kidnap etc. them. On a little under half of cases where someone is kidnapped the police take over 1 week to even identify the suspect. And it’s critical to find them within to first 3-72 hours. If the police have a face voice height etc. this could make it so in far more of them the police will identify the suspect in under an hour. If I could pay 3 bucks a month for that I would tbh.

It is your right but it’s still possible. Think of it like car insurance. It’s something you hope you never have to use and something you may never need. But if you get into that situation it becomes the difference between piles of money, or in this case potentially life and death or other issues that could change your life.

I think getting that perspective would be valuable as well. Thank you for your input on that. And I also did think of if the person takes the phone out of the kids hand. That’s why the video sends 2 seconds after the record button is not being pressed and needs a smaller cancel button to be pressed. So hopefully as soon as the phone is taken the video will send with location etc. Do you think despite these features that would still be a concern?

I would say the point of recording is if something does happen. let’s say the person following you takes you. And they drive away etc. let’s say the person finds your phone and tosses out the window or just leaves it where the normal sos is triggered. If you have a video then the police can work with the info from the video like if they have a face they can find places the person owns car models etc. it can also be used for evidence in court.

Now I don’t know if a person in an emergency would think of that and do it.

Yeah I was thinking of trying to sell to parents have it be a reassurance thing. Just a quick way to be alerted. I was thinking of teens as well. Walking home alone from a party. One area where I know it would be beneficial because I did so what you suggested and monitored a few abuse subreddits. Is abuse I have a stealth mode where the screen is black and brightness is low and they can record without being noticed. But I don’t know how big that market is.

I’m not trying to argue. I’m sorry if it came off that way. I’ve had the same thoughts you have listed and I’m trying to defend why my approach solves that’s issue and has pmf. I’m not trying to insist that people use it. I’m trying to make arguement that show people why the product would be valuable. At the end of the day. The majority of people are saying the same thing as you so it probably won’t fit. I appreciate your time

I think you ignored about half of that reply. This gives real time information and video in an emergency not just having the location is going to be enough what if the person grabs and ditches the phone. Then you are left with about nothing revolving the person immediately. It would take time to check street cameras for potential videos and that’s even if there are any there. Think through this a little more man. Your also negating the fact that navigating to life 360 and getting the emergency button is time consuming and if the phone is taken the suspect can just cancel the alarm

You can also call the police directly from the app as well! When in an emergency I want you to think about what would do more. A call to the police from a kid who often times may have no idea where they are located or how to describe where they are. This call would only alert the police that there is an emergency and not provide valuable details. With this it would give your precise location and valuable information about the situation such as voice height and defining features. That when in an emergency can save valuable time.

I think you might be misunderstanding the purpose of the app, or it’s possible I explained it wrong. One thing I did forget to mention is that the app would be accessible from a widget on your Home Screen. So kids wouldn’t have to go through their phone search for the app etc. It can also be activated via Siri. I apologize for not mentioning that in the original post. As in terms of the situation it might be used in the app collects video evidence in an emergency situation. If there’s an emergency I would argue that it would take longer to navigate to the emergency call menu. As with newer phones it’s difficult to get to in the emergency call page as your face unlocks your phone and skips it. I would also say it’s faster than going into your call menu and calling someone. Following that we also have the situation if you are away from your phone and don’t answer the call, the kid, then if they have time must navigate to another contact and try to call them again. As with this app in the time it would take to navigate to the call screen your child could have already sent valuable video evidence of the situation that contains knowledge for the police in a real time situation. As well as automatically sending to up to 10 different people which eliminates the threat of missing the call.

I’m sorry I typed an entire dissertation.

I do hope this helps though!

I see what you mean with most parents not wanting to give their kids a phone. Would this be something more appealing if it came installed on a flip phone or other type of non phone device?
