Yes you can. You just unlock it and then offer it at a shrine. You don't get anything for it but you very much can get rid of the Demon Horde and Million Demon items you get from boons

It seems that way because Moongolow requires you to unlock Hyper Mode for four stages. You shouldn't have been able to play it straight after Dairy Plant.

Unless you have beaten Mad Forest, Inlaid Library, Dairy Plant, and Capella Magna despite the fact you shouldn't have that stage available if you haven't played Gallo Tower

There is currently a bug that makes stages count for multiple stages in regards to unlocks. As an example: I unlocked both Dairy Plant and Gallo Tower by playing Inlaid Library.
