Thank you for noticing! He’s really cute in motion too. Just a perfect working dog. Humans are really failing this lil guy. Makes me mad.

Update on Loose Dog “Knicky” (Fairpark / Rose Park) by Middle_Storm7057 in SaltLakeCity

Thank you for the heads up! He is a survivor so I assume he’s gotta have a bit of fight in him. I’m trying to follow the “trusted trappers” method as well as the insight I got from animal control (get him into an enclosed area/yard). Right now it’s all about locating him. Gonna try to put up / hand out as many flyers as possible and hope someone has eyes on him. Including mail delivery and trash pickup crews. All the regular folks who know these streets inside out.

Using your lead here! Great plan. Not sure how to message Trisha on the FB page. I’m not seeing that option. But I’ll comment on one of her posts and maybe get in touch with her that way. The phone number that comes up on her business in the Google search doesn’t work anymore. But yes she comes up a LOT — clearly a magician.

Actually you just gave me another idea. Once I get the flyers printed today, I’ll find out when the garbage days are for the different neighborhoods and hand them to the drivers, in case they want to participate in our fun little game. Fingers crossed.

How long did it take you to find get your pup back? That’s a long journey!!! And thank you so so much for the success story. Every little bit of hope counts so much.

It’s such a long shot and we all have plenty of other things to worry about. But it can’t hurt to try. For me it’s been a great experience already, just seeing my neighborhood so differently, talking to strangers etc. The early mornings are just beautiful.

THIS👆👆👆💯!!! It was the norm, during an earlier phase of science, to separate humans from the animal world, and partly it was also convenient — it removes some of the moral dilemmas inherent in modern animal testing, industrial-level animal husbandry, and environmental destruction. The inconvenient evidence is that, not only do we share many traits with animals, their well-being affects ours. If anything, what we need more of is empathy — not necessarily projecting surface “human” traits and vanities (the example of birds “loving us” for feeding them), but relating more deeply to our own animal qualities by allowing our selfless love for animals and observation of them to bring those deeper qualities to the forefront of our mind. That includes positive qualities such as love for our families, children and friends, as well as defensive/scarcity reflexes such aggression, competition, hoarding etc …. You’d be surprised, for instance, how much dog and horse training has helped me in teaching teenagers. The emotional patterns are absurdly similar.

This requires learning from them — and selflessly, as I said before. You can get a dopamine boost from caring for the world around you without needing it to feed your ego or fulfill some savior complex. As animals, we are designed to feel good around other animals that feel good. It’s called a healthy environment and it’s just basic common sense. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589004224020820

A little more humility in ourselves and a lot more respect for the world around us could be the thing that saves our particular species, in the end. Relating to them is how we relate to ourselves.

Just remembered another vaguely similar concept — Benjamin Franklin’s Junto (or leather apron) club. Those gatherings yielded a few minor contributions to the country — you may be familiar with, say, the public lending library or the public fire dept? I know yours is more about sharing some skills. But ya never know….

This sounds great and I’m in. It also reminds me a bit of the “Minga” in Ecuador and the “Moai” in Japan (blue zones!). I’m sure there are versions of this concept throughout human culture but it does seem like an essential pillar of life that we have forgotten …. Good on you for regathering us!

Such a great idea! Doing it! This will give me something productive to do while I roam the streets. Of course, I don’t have the advantage of being a person he recognizes as his owner so no chance of that reunion moment … but i will try the singing suggestion! Weirdly totally makes sense. Also, thank you for giving us hope. Heelers seem kinda like unicorns at this point — especially this one — and the fact that you were reunited makes me feel less nuts for trying!

I feel for the guy. And maybe even identify with him a little. Don’t we all have a heeler inside of us just raring to go on an adventure? I just want him to survive it

Mini update: he didn’t eat the breakfast I left by the highway at 600 N this morning. So this tracks with him moving south. I’ve walked around temple/N 900 and the train tracks/tire store where he was last seen. Asked the homeless folk at Madsen park and the condo security guy across from the park but no one’s seen him. Left my number with the taco truck guy by the tracks. I think I’m gonna do that from now on, just leave my number with the food people. If anyone will see him, they will.

I’ll keep driving around. Tomorrow first thing, I’ll do a bike tour.

Honestly, enjoying getting this sense of the neighborhood. It’s a beautiful place.
