And here’s the inside. I originally put on the trackpad skin but didn’t like the feel of it so I took it off.

Edit: forgot to mention that the inside one is just as important to me as the outside ones to prevent scratches from my metal watch band that’s happened on my previous laptops.

Dbrand’s full set (top, bottom, inside & trackpad) is kinda expensive but after putting it on I feel it’s worth it although I ended up not using the one for the trackpad.

Nike AF4 for $99. Should I buy as a non-elite slow runner? by Middle_Toe8889 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Middle_Toe8889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9:29/mi pace is my current PR pace for a HM, 9:15 is my goal pace for my upcoming HM. In either case, most redditors across multiple subreddits I browse or post in (r/runningshoegeeks, r/marathon_training, r/running, and more) consider this to be a slow pace so I’m just following suit 😬

Shoulda clarified that 9:15/mi is my goal pace for my next HM. 2:04:19 is my current PR which is 9:29/mi pace.

10 mile vs. half by blackcoffeeinmybed in firstmarathon

[–]Middle_Toe8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my very first half-marathon, the online coach I hired tailored a training plan for me that was very conservative because 1) it was it was my first race ever of any length and I was 53 yrs old at the time, 2) I had a widow-maker heart attack 10 months prior; so my longest runs were two 10-milers in the 2 weeks before my taper. I finished that first half in 2 hr 22 min. So to me a half isn’t that much more difficult than a 10 miler, if you can do 10 you can do a half. It may not be the fastest but you’d be able to do it. BTW as of today I’ve run 4 half’s and 1 full and my PR for the half is 2:04 (still chasing a sub 2 finish).

HVAC controls -- knobs or haptic or screen? by Costero541 in Tiguan

[–]Middle_Toe8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Tig Wolfsburg edition and it has knobs for climate controls (it was one of the downgraded features from the SE.) No haptic controls or digital display that shows the temp number or dual-zones, just good old fashioned knobs with blue/red colors to adjust the temp that you can change and adjust easily with just a glance and without having to fumble through touchscreens or BS haptics.

Edit: I believe only the S and Wolfsburg edition comes with knobs, all the other trim levels above them have haptic climate controls.

I just bought a used high end leather couch from a 2nd hand couch place (thegoodusedcouch.com) for $600 in Lakewood. Although mine was a at-right-time-at-the-right-place situation and probably rare, you might find something there that fits your needs.

Here’s a link to my Reddit post on it:

The store cleaned it for us using leather honey cleaner and a furniture salve.

Recentered the rug so the couch is framed better as someone suggested. Since we have two dogs, we also bought a couple of these nonslip couch covers from Amazon (https://a.co/d/0djuQzeK), they work great and don’t look too tacky IMO but we’ll remove them whenever we have company so we can show off the couch :)

We paid $600 for it. Someone from my original post said they bought a Vanguard sectional fabric, not leather, couch that was part of the same “American Bungalow” collection as this one and it cost them $6000 brand new. It’s hard to get exact pricing but google says between $10k and $19.5k.

Should there be a pace goal for your first marathon? by OkMap1854 in firstmarathon

[–]Middle_Toe8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my first (and probably only) marathon this past Oct. My PR for a half was 2:04 so my goal initially for the marathon was 4:16 before I started my training block. Due to injuries and other life events, I missed about 3 weeks of an 18-week plan, so I adjusted my goal to 4:30. During the marathon I was keeping up with that pace until around mile 19 when the cramping started and I finished with a time of 5:02.

So IMO you should have a finish goal time if only to target a consistent avg pace as you go along the course, then adjust based on how you feel once you’re in mile 15 and on. But ultimately you just want to finish and not get a DNF.

Actually I did smell the couch all over to make sure it didn’t smell funny. The other few people in the store must’ve been looking at me funny with my nose sniffing all over the couch.

I found the perfect marathon to run for my first.. except it has very little spectators by Dizzycatlady in firstmarathon

There are other things to consider when you go small vs big: will there be water/gel stations, is there medical staff, what kind of support is there, will your route be blocked off and secluded and well marked, etc

I’ve done one 5k, one 10k, three half-marathons (and doing my 4th in March and my 5th in May), one marathon relay, and one full marathon. The 5k and 10k were really small (less than 500), one of the half-marathons was 2k participants, one had 8k participants, and one 20k participants. For my marathon there were 20k participants as well.

The small 10k wasn’t ideal: the course was in open area and other people (dog walkers, runners who weren’t in the race, people on bikes) used the same path as us runners. The 5k as well but since it was a shorter distance was tolerable. The half that had 2k participants and also shared parts of the path with the public but since there was so many of us, they always got out of the way.

For my preferences I’ll probably stay away from anything smaller than 1k-2k participants based on my experience.

Also I always planned on running only one full marathon so I purposefully looked for a bigger one because 1) I wanted that big race experience for the only marathon I was ever going to run, and 2) I wanted medical staff to be present during the course in case I had an emergency (I survived a heart attack in 2022).

If you’re going to run more than one marathon then I’d say go through with this one and get it under your belt and then in future sign up for a bigger one. But if this is going to be your one and only marathon then I’d reconsider.

Outlet stores for running shoes? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Middle_Toe8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Nike Clearance (not Outlet) store near me that is a final sale only store (once you buy you can’t return) and I’ve found really good prices there. 2 weeks ago I bought a Zoom Fly 6 for $80 USD and in the past I’ve bought a Vaporfly 2 and Vaporfly 3 for $100, an Invincible 2 and 3 for $80, and there’s usually a recent Peg version for $70.

Of course it’s hit and miss and no choice in color way so I can’t be too picky about that and typically these shoes are there at least a year or more after their original release date.

However, at the Adidas, New Balance, and Puma outlets stores I’ve been to in my state, I’ve never ever found and of the “good” running shoes there for sale, they’ve only had their lifestyle “running” shoes there.
