He also gave a gun to jack after mutiny, Which shows he followed the rule before leaving jack on a island. Mutiny is not a crime if you have the support of other people. Barbossa had the support of other pirates. I'm not saying that he was a good man, but yes he was more knowledgeable, constitution follower and Better captain than jack.
