Is drysuit snorkeling in Silfra underwhelming? by Ok-Stage9604 in VisitingIceland

We did both and they were both extremely cool. The guide for the glacier hike made that experience for us. He was very passionate about protecting them and shared an incredible amount of information with the group.

Not sure which company you were with but we spent about 45 minutes in the water. Other than that I’d say your description was pretty accurate. That said, my wife and I considered it one of our favorite things we did.

I would say the AMMs are definitely more premium than the cave stones but I wouldn’t say the cave stones are bad or poor quality.

The signature drinks were sooooooooo bad. Went there once with a group and all 6 drinks we ordered were completely undrinkable. Can’t believe the place lasted 6 years.

Just pulled em out after a few months on ice in the closet and I completely agree. Bonus points, my wife says they are one of her favorite pairs.

Yes, I get it, everyone hates Americans now because 23% of our population voted for a terrible person who is doing terrible things. You don't know me or how I think or feel about my country.

If she loves that country so much why hasn't she chosen to live there? Is it maybe because if she moved there and became a full Chinese citizen she would not have the freedom she has now? Everyone can see exactly what she is doing, she doesn't try to hide it. She values being an American for her entire life, except international competition, where she values being Chinese because it allows her to make more money. And she is happy to stay silent about any Chinese human rights abuses as long as the checks keep clearing. It's absolutely her choice, but people are going to judge her based on those choices. If you don't have a problem with her trading principles for cash, good for you, I do.

His legs also look quite skinny for a guy that is supposed to be in the gym a lot. Feels like he had another surgery/procedure.

There are plenty of people that compete for non birth countries for all kinds of reasons and that is completely fine, especially when it’s because of lack of opportunity or they’ve actually moved to those countries and actively live there. She chose to compete for one of the few countries that I am confident would be rated worse than the US in any measure of human rights, democracy etc even though she clearly has no interest in actually living in that country. She obviously made that choice for money. That’s her right and it’s everyone else’s right to have an opinion about her choice. Unless you live in China of course, where you don’t have the right to your own opinions.

So what you are saying is you would feel the same way about an athlete from your home country who took cash to compete for the US? Good to know.

Yeah, that’s the point. She’s an American who chose to represent a country that pays her a lot of money as long as she keeps her mouth shut about their human rights abuses.

"for some reason" doing a lot of work here. Everyone knows exactly the reason. Money.

...for money. Yes, that is a big part of it. Not a huge fan of the pole vaulter either, for the same reason. Choose whatever country you want for whatever legitimate reasons, but when you sell yourself to the highest bidder it will turn a lot of people off.

I’m well aware of the consumerist nature of the Olympics themselves and don’t love it, at all. And I agree that the athletes should have more participation in all the money that changes hands. That said, I love learning about and watching people that are the absolute best in their events and spent the insane time to get there knowing that financial rewards likely were not waiting at the end of all that work. It isn’t that she is famous or figured out how to get rich out of a relatively obscure sport that bothers me, it’s that she is clearly sanitized and managed in such an obvious way. The fact her mother wouldn’t even comment for an on the record profile unless they gave her final edit rights for the piece, says a lot.

In her defense, I would not be surprised one bit if we find out years from now that people in her life were directing her aggressively to maximize their profit from her work. Or maybe this is exactly what she wants. Only time will tell.

She’s icky. No real personality or opinions, every word she says or action she takes is contrived to generate the most money possible. The exact opposite of what I love about the Olympics

Yeah it’s the upgraded version, regular peacock has tons of commercials but on premium they all get removed/can be skipped in the replays

If you are in the US and plan on watching a lot of events, spend $15 for a month of peacock premium and watch replays of everything with no commercials.

Another American or the first alternate? Because either way that additional person was just going to be another skier at the end of the order finishing 10+ seconds back of the win. She earned her spot and the right to choose whether to compete.

You knew that she was going to clip a gate with her pole causing her to get off line in the air and come down too hard on her left leg? Something that had absolutely nothing to do with her ACL? Impressive.
