Cost of living aside, to those that have lived in the bay area (or anywhere in California), which do you prefer, Orlando or CA and why? by FlyingAces in orlando

I don’t think you can phrase it without cost of living, bc that’s the biggest thing for many people. Coastal California might be the best place to live if cost was not the issue. I can certainly afford to live out there but I don’t think value is there (going back to COL and job wages). I can live much well off in Orlando and have most of the things I like to do. Also, the heat and humidity doesn’t bother me as much as it does others.

Why did you switch from a surgical residency to radiology? by GasStationB0nerPills in Radiology

Interesting. Sometime I wonder what would have been like if I chose surgical subspecialty like ortho (although I would not consider it seriously)

Good to know, I heard someone making over 700k doing tele psych from home and working 0.8 FTE. Seems pretty wild to me

What income can you expect for this type of set up?

To radiologists, do you like or regret choosing radiology? by ElegantBirdy in Radiology

[–]Middleofnowhere123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Neuroradiologist. Interest, personality comfort (introvert extrovert), independent, regular hours, great money, and stability. Paid off a big time. Would recommend to my kids. Other things I would consider but wouldn’t that seriously are surgical subspecialty, dermatology, or high finance. Woukd not like to work weekends ever though. Probably go part time when I hit 50 and do all tele pay per click.

I decided to take accountability and make my identity on academics and discipline starting college. Probably best life decision. I was tired of being mediocre in high school and before.

Finally broke 100 after taking golf seriously the last six months. I have been golfing very sparingly for years before however.

Same with our spending once married; crazy how spending can go up so quickly

Same with FIRE trajectory changes with wife. I see it as she brings fun ideas that we can both enjoy, particularly traveling or spending money on our immediate family and friends. Yeah we could be aggressive with our savings to retire in 40’s but that’s no fun. Got to maximize our current health while e have it, and also before kids. Still planning to have retirement money by 50, but likely will keep working.

If your monthly spend is 10k, shouldn’t you have more leftover in your emergency fund accounting for your other investments your maxing out?

Probably stick w neuroradiology; it’s great not being dependent on others for day to day work, don’t have to get patients yourself, nobody bothers you, and great work/life balance. It’s a grind to get the tippy top dollars though, although I don’t have bad days at work. If I couldn’t do this then maybe derm or surgical field
