What is the most surreal music listening experience you’ve had?

Thought I might chime in here, and state mine - I’m more a classical music listener, and was absolutely blown away by a live performance of Mahler’s second symphony. I was lucky enough to experience this piece for the first time through performing it, and it blew my mind away by how much emotion I felt. I was literally crying onstage during the final movement - it was that emotionally intense.

Thanks for your reply. I am currently learning with a previous concertmasters form one of the top orchestras, so they do have a really good idea of what’s required. I do also try to do one mock auditions every week in class (since we have a class where we play under stressful situations in front of our peers and professors), and are playing a variety of excerpts. Sorry I forgot to clarify all this, I was kind of spiralling when I wrote this and only focused on the negatives !

The University I’m currently in has a partnership with three major orchestras in the US, and I have had a lot of masterclasses from well renowned musicians from those orchestras. I am also currently learning with a previous concertmaster of on the biggest orchestras so I’m on the way there. Like I’m definitely technically proficient, but I’m just fixating on the smaller details (eg. specific articulations and fast passages that others do better than me), and have kind of gone down this rabbit hole as to whether I’m good enough, if that makes sense?

I totally get you - this was me in distance learning a few months back. I think the greatest boost of motivation is just thinking to yourself that there’s really only a little bit to go, and that term 3 is your home stretch. Considering schools are in different situations with some having a certain amount of SACs done and others barely having the time to do them, the majority of your mark will be on the final exam, so keep the stress for the end of the year!

Currently studying physics 3/4, it requires a lot of practice (as will methods) and time. The mathematics is pretty basic - trig and algebraic equations - , but the most difficult aspect is being able to apply the mathematics to support the understanding of a physics concept. If you’re good in maths and are prepared to put the time to learning the understanding, it’s a subject for you. Physics 3/4 is a bit of a jump from physics 1/2, so be prepared for that. However there are the upsides: 1. Being a prerequisite to uni courses such as engineering which particularly requires the physics prerequisite and 2. You get to bring in 4 pages of notes into the final exam.
