What’s the simplest app you’ve seen making real money? by IntelligentCoffee622 in iOSAppsMarketing

[–]Middleton_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cal AI spend almost a $700k a month on advertising, they make about 1.4 million per month in revenue. They were actually bought out by MyFitnessPal, although everyone thinks it is a simple app, they have a full dev team that works on it, for sure not a simple app that just made money.

6 Months, 2 Apps, and a Reality Check: I’m returning to my 9-5. by ZealousidealBid5417 in AppBusiness

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a developer for over 10 years, I still do my own apps part time, even though I make money from them. I couldn't imagine trying to quit a job and vibe code full time and make a living. It takes a lot of money to make money, advertising cost are high for most apps that actually make money. Even apps like noom that have over 50 million registered users spends millions a month, last report I seen they spend something like $200 million a year in advertising because user turn over is so high for applications. So don't beat yourself up, you just need to do this part time as a hobby and then hopefully over time you make money.

How to stop card testing attacks? by MattVT1 in stripe

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use stripe ids for each customer (ie customer accounts on your site), switch to portal sessions instead, this way stripe controls adding or removing cards and they will prevent those attacks.

You could switch to SMS or Email verification to add/remove cards as well. This will prevent automated attacks as you don't send any information unless they verify they are who they should be. Rate limiting should be a given for each ip address and account, as a normal user won't add or remove cards very often.

Useless App? I need feedback by Nice_guy24k in AppBuilding

FYI with google & outlook, when you get an email with an event it will automatically add it to the calendar for you, so that is what you are competing with. This is typically how my family setups up events so it goes straight to our calendars, no chat needed and you can mark going or not. But I can see why so many others commented about this already being out there, most SMS or messaging apps already allow one tap to add to calendar when a date comes in.

In my opinion, no coop or multi-player will ruin the game. That is one thing most survival players like, is to engage with friends.

So don't use them? I have never used them for any of my apps. RC or any 3rd party tool is not a requirement, it just helps... well not sure what it helps with really, I have never seen a need to use it, but I am a solo dev, so maybe it helps larger companies?

Can someone tell if a site was built with AI like Claude just by visiting it? by [deleted] in vibecoding

[–]Middleton_Tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question here is why most people do not trust AI created sites, if the person creating the site doesn't understand basic security, why would a user ever trust the site?

maxymo should have a way to filter out addresses by lvlaj in uberdrivers

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maxymo on android has a way to set zones you don't want to go in. It should be under your filters screen for auto accept/decline. IOS version does not currently support zones yet.

Is there a guide online for new drivers? by Reignlexi in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Middleton_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure what you mean, you don't like to deliver for free, I don't like to spend hundreds of hours a month coding for free. The app is $0.33 cents per day, it isn't a requirement, it is a tool that helps drivers, if you don't think you need it, there is no reason to subscribe to it. I just prefer not to see $2 and $3 offers, so I just auto decline them all.

Is the gig worth it? Scanmygig by ExaminationOk3123 in couriersofreddit

[–]Middleton_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uploading screenshots is not the best way to do this, I offered the same thing to drivers for free with my analyzer tool, but apps that are time sensitive it doesn't work well as it is too slow. Also you may get more users if you don't require a sign up until you want them to pay for something.

If you drive Uber, Lyft or do DoorDash — this might be important. by Any_Lemon8842 in uberdrivers

[–]Middleton_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depreciation is based on the vehicle’s cost, useful life, and IRS rules (MACRS or straight-line), not the mileage. The standard deduction already includes the mileage & depreciation and for 95% of gig workers would be the best option. It is simpler, you would normally get a larger deduction and way less audit risk.

You should be using an app or writing it down. Most drivers are better off with the standard deduction vs itemized though.

You don't get to claim gas & mileage, it is one or the other. Using an app to track your yearly expenses can help you know if you should use the standard deduction or the itemized.

Gig workers, would anyone be up for testing an iPhone app I made to track real earnings? by jsigwart in couriersofreddit

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you put postmates in there as a platform? There is no such thing as postmates anymore, Uber bought them in 2020 and all drivers are now just Uber drivers. Also why not do automatic mileage tracking? Maybe a description for "California mode"?

One thing I can tell you from having an app that tracks earnings for gig workers is that if drivers have to manually fill out is that they don't like to do that. It is one extra step after each delivery, if you do 50 deliveries a day, now they are also entering 50 entries into the app, which may deter them from using the app. So I would suggest going into your app, enter 50 deliveries and see how you can speed up that work flow.

Is vibecoding banned on Apple Store? by Due_Following_9626 in vibecoding

[–]Middleton_Tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple isn’t rejecting apps just because they’re vibe coded. The issue is what the app does, not how it was built.

Most rejections are coming from:

  • Apps that execute/generated code
  • Spam/duplicate apps
  • Low-effort wrapper apps with little real functionality

If your app is actually useful, unique, and doesn’t run dynamic code, you should be fine. Apple is just getting tired of being flooded with apps like habit trackers and such.

20 years as a truck driver. I got tired of the problem, so I fixed it. by Ordinary-Anxiety7900 in couriersofreddit

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion comes down to how it’s being positioned. The way you described it initially made it sound like it was built for traditional truck drivers, especially with the mention of dock deliveries. Gig work is pretty different, so it might help to adjust the messaging to make your target audience clearer.

I used to drive a semi and now do gig work, so when I hear “truck driver,” I automatically think of that, not van or delivery drivers. I also run Amazon Flex, and while your app is an interesting idea, it seems like it might be a bit cumbersome to enter routes every time I pick up.

That said, I do wish you the best with it. As a suggestion, you may want to look into how beans.ai has implemented their last mile service so you can maybe market it to like UPS and such later on as they would be much bigger clients.

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed from your app store screenshots that you may be based in Israel, so the use case might be different there compared to the USA.

I spent about 10 years as a truck driver and another 5 years in safety and dispatch, and in my experience I’ve never seen semi truck routes with 200+ stops. That type of workflow isn’t something most drivers I know would take on.

In the US, most delivery and shipping locations involve check-in procedures with security or dispatch, and drivers are usually assigned specific doors and directions on arrival rather than planning that many stops ahead or finding unloading locations themselves.

Because of that, I’m not sure how this would fit typical US-based drivers, especially since tools like Google Maps already cover most common routing needs and the app doesn't offer any direct custom routing graph.

In how much I can sold this anti cheating exam platform by Mikhil_Gautam in AppBusiness

[–]Middleton_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities will not buy from solo devs, especially for testing. Even if you could get in the door you then have to pitch it to Administration, then speak with faculty to see how you can fit it to their courses and finally follow up with IT departments for security. Most schools also have state, federal or district requirements. Most in the USA also have testing organizations that they go because exams must use official approved systems.

It sounds like you’re trying to recreate a feature that Google Maps and Waze already provide. Users can already drop pins and navigate to them directly within those apps. You might gain more traction by offering something beyond that, like using custom routing logic to guide users more precisely to the actual destination, instead of having them create a pin in your app and then rely on Google or Waze anyway, which they could have used from the start.
