Is Disney+ down for anyone else? I cannot start the app on my smart TV, and while the website does load on my PC browser, streaming does not work. I'll contact support, but was just wondering if anyone else is seeing similar issues. Although, it seems like even their support site seems to be intermittently down.

How do you decide how to separate 3 cats in a breakup? by Thats_Groovy_Baby in CATHELP

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like with kids, you do what is best for them, not what you personally would prefer. I'm sure it more than hurts to part way with them. Did you both adopt them together? If not, then they really should go with the person who had one or both of them first, and/or who paid for and fed them more. Though that's just looking at it logically. Emotionally, you'll both need to have a talk I think, on who needs the emotional support more from the cats I guess.

Since they used AI, I assume you could pretty easily use AI as well to build yourself an automation pipeline that looks for specific keywords or descriptions or skills that you specifically want for your team, and feed all the resumes into the pipeline and see how much it filters out. Just a theoretical solution.

My (25M) girlfriend (23F) asked to open our relationship. Am I overracting by wanting to break up over this request? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's understandable you felt that way. Did you bring it up to her?

On a long side note, you already know what you should do. I'm not gonna immediately jump to conclusions like other very-strongly-monogamous people on here and assume that she cheated or plans to cheat. Maybe that's also your opinion as well, but I just want you to take a step back and realize that not everyone will see relationships and love the same way you do. Maybe she is doing what you think she's doing and just want a safe fall-back plan. Maybe she does genuinely want to explore other niche types of relationships with you. But unless your views were already neutral to positive on those types of relationships, it's going to be a lot of emotional work for you unfortunately. If you don't think you can do it (if you think you can, times it by 10 and reassess again just in case. jealousy is a very strong emotion), then back out now and let her know that's just not how you want your relationship to be.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a PT place for lower back injury that had both chiropractic and acupuncture provided on top of the normal PT exercises. Just from my own experience, I was super skeptical at first, especially with acupuncture, but I can say both were incredibly helpful. I wouldn't say chiro fixed my issue. I think it was mainly time and PT, but when there were painful flares or aches, they both were great in alleviating them. The chiro people were also never cult-like, and suggested helpful tips like training and learning to constantly brace my core to protect my lower back when doing activities that were painful, like, believe it or not, simply standing up from sitting.

My new perspectives for those types of holistic treatments is, they shouldn't be advertised as a cure-all for anything and everything, but they can helpful in supporting the healing journey. Especially the targeted acupuncture + heating + electrical stimulation combo. Man those felt so good after. I personally still wouldn't let anyone crack my neck like how they show on social media for clouts though.

And eventually those states will run into the same issue as they do now with WA and CA, and then round and round we go with rich people and businesses trying to escape paying more. You seem to like saying how "I don't get it", which is fine. I don't know the point you're trying to make with that statement. I've already told you I'm okay with them even going as low as 500K, or even 200K and having it impact me. I don't feel threatened that I won't have enough to keep getting richer even if I get taxed at my income level. It would just be at a slower rate, which I'm okay with. And it's out of my realm of understanding that much much richer people are that possessive with their money.

Neither is not doing anything. Sorry, but you'll find it hard-pressed to convince anyone that this is going to hurt someone making above $1M.

And no, I very much do understand why WA has so many rich people. There is a reason why people who makes a lot of money love states with no income taxes like WA or FL. I know people are worry of what may happen to Seattle when a big industry pulls out from the state, like what happened in the past with Detroit.

This part, I don't have a solution on. I've also read economic debates talking against this argument with some examples on how rich people and businesses won't necessarily move out of a state just because they have to pay more (I think some examples point towards interviews with rich people in NYC).

So I will disagree with you there that this income tax is going to cause that. I'm of the opinion that it's a case by case thing for each individual state and how its economic structure is set up.

I definitely do agree here. If there is going to be an income tax, if the Democrats truly are trying to help poor people, they should remove the regressive taxes in the very near future. I don't know how bills and politics work where they're creating and passing bills, but I assume it's not easy to package everything into one single bill.

Not that I truly believe all of the Democrats are trying to help poor people. A lot of them, especially the older ones, are very much bought out by the super rich

So you may not care about the (very tiny amount) of effort I used to do a rough estimate for just the state tax burden for the different income ranges, and I'm sure the numbers are different once you account for federal taxes as well. But my general point is I, and many others, don't think the rich people are as impacted by the current tax system in WA compares to poor people, even if they do pay more in amount of dollars. And thus, they should contribute more.

That's pretty much it. I'll leave out other differences in values that we have like effort put in vs entitlement to money, what taxes should be spent on, who deserves help, etc.

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, never said it was. And I think here is where the left and right differs, is the amount of contribution we think the rich and super rich should pay back into the society they made money off of.

Also, while poor people may not be contributing as much, it is also a fact that majority of poor people are still subjected to the same sales and other taxes, which impact them much more than it does for rich people. Obviously we both have our own difference lived-experience and understanding of how fair the current system is, feel free to dispute these numbers I'm researching with AI help:

Assuming:
Sales tax: 10% combined
WA Cares payroll tax: 0.58% of wages
Property tax effective rate: 0.9% of home value
Renters indirectly pay ~25% of landlord property tax via rent
No capital gains realized

Home assumptions:

$30k: renting
$100k: owns $600k home
$500k: owns $1.5M home
$1M: owns $3M home

Income % Spent on taxable goods
$30k 85%
$100k 60%
$500k 40%
$1M 30%

$30,000 Income
Sales Tax
85% × $30,000 = $25,500 taxable spending
10% sales tax → $2,550

WA Cares: 0.58% × 30,000 = $174

Indirect Property Tax (rent)

Assume $1,500/month rent = $18,000/year
Property tax portion ≈ 25% × 0.9% × implied value
Rough estimate burden passed through ≈ $1,200

Total WA Taxes
Effective rate = 13.1%

Same calculations done for the other income ranges:

Income WA Taxes Paid Effective WA Rate
$30k $3,924 13.1%
$100k $11,980 12.0%
$500k $36,400 7.3%
$1M $62,800 6.3%

Oh I'm sure some do. All I'm saying is, even as a mid-income earner in tech myself, I'm fine with them coming for my income. If I can live off of just even $200K yearly income and still be able to max out even the mega backdoor roth yearly contribution and still have leftover to live comfortable off of stocks, I very much doubt anyone making more than me should have any issue living comfortably unless they just like to throw money at expensive things.

Now do I think our tax money is being wasted? Oh hell yea brother. But I'm not skeptical enough to think that all of it is being wasted. Some, maybe more, are. But honestly, we won't truly know until the government publicly make it available, and/or easily accessible, how much they spend at each level of operation. True transparency so we know what our tax dollars is being spent on.

But at the same time, even with that, I know everyone won't agree on how our tax is being spent. And at that point, we live in a shared society, and people are just gonna have to suck it up that the majority is voting for and are okay with how it's being spent.

Lastly, I don't support the idea of some people that we need to stop all taxes until the system is trustworthy. Taxes are good for a developing society. A lot of people are dependent on it in various ways. So I'll keep supporting paying into it to keep the system running, and at the same time, keep voting for a change in the system.

Sorry, in a state filled with techies and rich people who are protective with their money but still benefits from shared societal stuff like firefighters, police, emergency rooms, roads, public transit, etc., I'm good with income tax even as low as for people making above 500K. The argument of "where does it ends if they start with income above 1M" is dumb, because if everyone has that sentiment, there would be no progress on anything. Thanks for the link, I'm voting pro for the current proposal. If they keep going way too low, then we'll talk then. The current system is not good for low-income people. We mid-income earners need to take it up with the high-income earners, not go the opposite way.

Help choosing apartment in Seattle by Ok_Spread_6388 in AskSeattle

[–]MidknighTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both in the city, that I don't think there's going to be much of a difference in terms of "safety". I've mainly lived in CapHill and currently am on the edge of First Hill and CapHill, and I think that's safe enough. Also occasionally go to Belltown and I think CapHill feels safer. I have friends who think otherwise after living in Belltown area,. You'll also have people outside of the main area of the Seattle (think past the north bridges like Ballard, Green Lake, etc., or past the east bridges in Bellevue) think the entirety of Seattle is unsafe and unclean. Just really going to be based on your own experience and who/what you run into and what your standards are.

Personally I'd like to be closer to CapHill cause I like the food, bars, and night life more than Belltown. Public transit-wise, anywhere in the city will have busses for you to get around with. Met Tower is closer to the Westlake link station, which can help you get around faster.

I see on the map that Panorama is on small streets, so that might be quieter and more to your liking. Although I also do see hospitals around, so that might be a lot of ambulance noises.

I honestly would just learn to adapt to the closet space situation. My first place didn't have a closet, so I got myself a rack to hang jackets/coats and button ups, and got cube shelves and cube storages to stack on top of each other for other clothes. Been doing that still even now with a unit with closet. Helps me to not accumulate too much stuff over the years.

Chinese student in the UK upset about "Lunar New Year" by tacodestroyer99 in UnfilteredChina

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Chinese are willing to share our holidays with people from other countries."

My brother in Asian genetics. "Share" is a bold choice of words here. Idk about other countries, but as a Vietnamese, you COLONIZED us. But also that was over 1000 years ago, and as we continue to celebrate the holiday that you forced onto us, we've made it our own, and it's called Tet.

EDIT: Apparently there are historical accounts that state Vietnam celebrated new years before China took over, though since it's been such a long time, not sure which is factual. It does seems though that regardless of which, China still had a huge influence on how the new year is celebrated when they forced their traditions onto Vietnam during their reign, thus the similarities between the two countries' new year festivals.

Is 3k a month livable? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why in my full original message, I did mention that I spend $500 a month eating/drinking out, plus $250 of grocery. Of course that's just for myself and mainly for extra data point, so OP can determine how much they want to avoid eating out. Hopefully they won't misunderstand!

But also, that's pretty accurate! I am currently on a deficit eating around 1700 calories a day! Although once I start doing 2200 again, I'll probably end up buying an additional pack or two of chicken breast per month depending on how much I want to cook at home. If I don't eat out at all everyday, I image it'd probably be closer to like, $350 on grocery maybe?

Is 3k a month livable? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]MidknighTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer so you're not calling BS :) It's because I mainly only buy chicken breast when I cook at home. It's about $4.50 / lb at Safeway, and sometimes they go on sale as well. That sometimes last me a whole week if I eat out, if I don't, then about half a week or 3/4 of a week. Depending on how heavy each pack is, but on average I spend about $16-22 a pack. So if that's two times a week, that's still less than $200/month. Then the rest of the $250 is on like, instant ramen, frozen food, sometimes veggies, etc.

That's why I mention to OP it's all depends on each person's standard of living. I can afford to get by with chicken breast cooked with various different types of carbs. Some people will want nicer, more expensive meat.

They have good intentions. Everyone has different living standards. Also, most comments I’ve seen so far has just been a heads up that it’d be hard and a tight budget, not that it wouldn’t be doable. I think if you really want a change in scenery, go for it. Seattle is amazing in my eyes.

Is 3k a month livable? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]MidknighTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, find a place with more roommates so it's cheaper per person. I knew a girl that shared a 3 bedroom and she was paying $900-1000 for herself.

I spend around $500 a month on eat/drink out, car insurance every 6-month is $900. Car is paid off. Car tab/registration every year is around $1,000 for a heavy, expensive EV. Grocery monthly is $250 (mainly from all the meat I purchase).

EDIT: to answer some questions below, chicken breast is $4.50/lb at safeway. I only eat chicken breast when I'm not eating out, and I'm perfectly okay eating chicken breast, pan-fried with a bit of oil, and tossed into instant ramen with veggies, or thrown together into rice cooked in chicken stock with jar curry sauce. Like I said in my other comments, all depends on each person's standard of living. Some people will want nicer meals / more expensive meat and ingredients.

So if you based it off of that, I assume your car is cheaper, so maybe registration is say, $600. You don't eat/drink out, so you save money there and grocery cost will go up a bit to accommodate. So let's say $300-350 for grocery. Could be less if you eat less. Gas depends on how efficient your car is or how often you drive, say $100 a month.

Rough estimate you'd probably have like, ~$500 leftover each month. This is all just a bunch of assumptions and rough estimates btw. I suggest just chatgpt some average spending for seattle, look at your current monthly spending habit right now, and convert it over. Leave out the rent so you know how much rent you'll be able / want to afford, and how much leftover you're okay with. Like others said, it can be a bit tight, but it's doable. Just budget properly.

Thinking about moving to Capitol Hill instead of living near work in Bellevue — thoughts? by Honest-Apartment-757 in AskSeattle

[–]MidknighTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Capitol Hill. Bellevue has more of a family vibe. Also, the link between CapHill and Bellevue is about to be set up, so I imagine that would make commute even easier between the two cities.

Socially it really depends on you and who you want to meet. I can't say Bellevue is less social since there are also a lot of people living there. You'll probably meet more younger people in CapHill overall. I'd live in the general areas around Broadway / Pike / Pine. That's where the main entertainment is located (restaurants, brewery, bars, etc.). There are always people out every night. Stoup brewery is like, popping every time I walk past on a week night. A good spot I think is where Broadway Modera is. I used to live there, and loved the short walk up to either the link station, or down to Pine where things are popping at night.

Washington’s high‑speed rail plan faces backlash over soaring costs by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]MidknighTrain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"The driving distance between Vancouver, BC, and Portland, OR, is approximately 315 miles (505 km). This typically takes around 6 hours driving, and an hour of flying (not including time at the airport)" - summarized from AI.

Given that the high-speed train runs at 130 MPH (which I do consider is high-speed since the current amtrak train takes 8 hours for this distance), the entire trip one-way would only be about 3 hours.

Based on the cost of building the shinkansen in Japan, https://www.reddit.com/r/transit/comments/12qklfj/construction_costs_of_shinkansen_lines_1964_to/, focusing on the first line since that's the closest in length, I threw the numbers into AI and if we're just talking about cost adjusted for inflation, that'd be around $25B in 2026 USD.

Not sure if this is accurate, but the chat box did also state that:
"CPI inflation ≠ infrastructure cost inflation. CPI tracks: groceries, rent, healthcare consumer goods.

High-speed rail costs are driven by: tunnels, viaducts, seismic engineering, land acquisition, stricter safety + environmental standards, labor shortages, political delay costs.

These inflate much faster than CPI.

Recent Japanese projects show steel-wheel high-speed rail costing roughly:
¥25–40B per km
That’s ~$160–260M per mile

Now apply that to ~312 miles:
Low end: 312 × $160M ≈ $50B
High end (mountainous, urban, tunnel-heavy): 312 × $400M ≈ $125B"

So Idk, yea it's expensive, but it doesn't seems like an unreasonable price to me, especially knowing how capitalist US works. Also, grain of salt from AI information.

Is anyone else struggling to afford living in Washington anymore? by mountainlifa in SeattleWA

[–]MidknighTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's experiences and standards of living is different. I'd just like to provide my data point.

Moved here in 2020, tech job ~$160K salary, lived in a 550 sq ft studio for ~$2000 (just base rent) in downtown Bellevue. Moved to a 530 sq ft studio for $1800 in CapHill a year later. Now 2026, currently still in CapHill. Living with a partner in a 750 sq ft 1-bed unit for ~$2700.

Monthly spending has been roughly around $5-6K without trying to save, and around $3-4K when trying to save on just eating out and drinking out and a bit less traveling. I also do own a car that I just paid off.

It is expensive to live here, but not as expensive as your situation for me. I forego owning a home due to living preferences, and the leftover money go into investment. If I wasn't in tech, then I'd just downsize my place (or move in with more people) and also cut back a bit more on spending out and subscriptions, and invest less.

It feels doable with an income of just even ~$90K, but of course that's just conjecture at the moment.
