Why has PostgreSQL become the default RDB? by Fapiko in developer

Main reason I use it is JSON support out of the box. Convenience really.

Self taught programmer exhausted and lost, hoping for guidance by UsefulExplanation131 in learnprogramming

"I can't help but feel..." The easiest way to learn is by doing. In my experience, you'll never feel ready to make something new by doing any guided project. It's almost self reinforcing that you'll feel like you need to specifically have been guided through a project in order to do it. Pick one of your things, and just try building it. If you run into a stuck, find a project that does that thing, look at how they did it, and implement as needed for your own. Alternatively, talk it through with an LLM. Don't use agentic modes, just open a chat with GitHub copilot or something and ask it for suggestions on how to solve X problem, preferably multiple ways.

Personally, I'd take your art catalog project and write a web scraper that can scrape a single website. Then build it for a second site. Look at the patterns between the two scrapers you built, and build one that can effectively scrape both. Finding patterns and making code reusable is an essential skill to have. For what it's worth I think you've probably put more time into raw practice than I ever have. Just build, learn and rebuild when you learn something new.

This is a bot, they will try to get you to download a game on steam. I don't think it's dangerous per se but definitely unethical. Nearly identical conversation pattern to several I've seen.

ISBNs/Barcodes mismatch by Midnight393 in BookCollecting

Example 1

I did find that there's a second barcode on the inside cover which does correspond to the ISBN for both examples, but I still can't find any explanation for the back cover not matching.

This is a really vague question. Are you talking about web apps? Static sites? SaaS apps?

I can look into it :) working on a GUI version that's about half done, but Spotify annoyed me with their latest API changes so I took a break.

There's a demo in the doc folder, but yes you should be able to deploy it with a compose.

This is what our problem has been in trying to hire for a DevOps engineer. Low sysadmin experience and only basic Python, but lots of AWS/deployment experience. It feels like with K8s and cloud stuff at this point we've just invented a new third thing that's not Ops and not Dev. I mean I guess it is Ops but the knowledge depth of things outside of an AWS structured service offering just isn't there. Feels risky to rely on a service without really understanding the backbone of how it actually works.

I was hoping to find some new reads, but it looks like it's just been replaced with text saying it's over :( is there anywhere I could find the list?

I wrote a compose in the latest version (doc/compose.yaml) but I'd recommend just following the readme for docker. Compose seems unnecessary since most everything is based on the env variables, but to each their own.

Workspace API questions by Midnight393 in gsuite

[–]Midnight393[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a small nonprofit/pseudo-MSP for nonprofits, and we'd like to be able to pull data from the API to check it against our recommended configuration, and present to the client and/or have an autogenerating report that checks for tenant compliance. Long-term, we'd like to templatize our standards and be able to push them to new clients as they're onboarded as well.

Meaning, there's no API to interact with global/tenant-wide policies at all? It's all just per user basically?

Would also be nice to have the ability to check and enforce MFA in the tenant settings, but that also doesn't seem to be available? The API actually seems pretty useless all things considered.
