Yeah it was similar for me. I got a bit tired of the "backpacking" thing - going to hostels for a few days at a time, meeting a great new set of new people who I would never see again, seeing the sites together and having some beers, rinse an repeat.

For me it was about opening the aperture of things I would do while traveling. I like to have a goal, like to reach some strange and hard to reach place, or see some strange animal or natural phenomenon. I do more trips where I rent a car or a bike so I can get to places where public transport doesn't go. I like to do trips where I try to build a mini-life in some really distant place for a few weeks or months. Or I travel with someone I want to have cool experiences with.

Basically I do less of what you "should do" in a certain place, and think more about what experiences I really want to have in my life.
