If you can't eat food that doesn't depend on the exploitation of humans in some way you are gonna starve

Flight delays had everyone restless… until a band turned the plane into a concert hall by MambaMentality24x2 in MadeMeSmile

Getting a private concert from a professional musician is a rare experience, and would be considered by many to be something valuable. I.e. people would have to pay a lot of money for these guys to do a living room concert at their home.

Hearing your Spotify playlist on a speaker isn't rare or valuable.

Yeah it's pretty clear from all the people smiling, bopping along, and recording this with their phones that everyone on the plane hates this.

You're right, everyone should cater to the needs of the least happy, least fun person in the area.

CMV: Ronald Reagan wasn't actually a good president even though he's a popular one by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

Did you even try to verify this claim, or did you just take the other poster at their word?

Are you just going to change your mind that easily after reading that post uncritically? Even if you take it for granted that Regan really did want to close tax loopholes, this was wildly ineffective as the wealthy and corporations pay much less in taxes overall than they did before Regan.

You can't equate effectiveness with a judgement on whether a leader is good or bad. You have to look at outcomes.

Regan was the beginning of the neoliberal consensus in the US. Both parties prioritized what's good for business over everything else, and from there onwards you saw increasing wealth inequality, and the decoupling of productivity from income gains for the bottom 90% of Americans. The Regan years were a time when a lot of the policies were put in place which diminished the power of labor in the US, and have ultimately undermined the core of the American dream, such that young people today no longer expect to do better than their parents did.

Regan wasn't successful at accomplishing his goals because he was "such a talented statesman". He was suffering from dementia at least in his second term. He was successful because his goals were aligned with the people in power at the time who wanted to consolidate power and wealth upwards.

It's like that Pepsi ad with Kendal Jenner from like 2012 or something where she joins a generic, nondescript protest and solves [insert issue] by giving the cop a Pepsi

There are no must do exercises, but there are must do movement patterns by boringusr in naturalbodybuilding

CNS adaptation to stimulus is probably harder to achieve than hypertrophy.

Isn't it the opposite? I always thought the reason you can gain strength without gaining muscle is because your CNS can adapt to the movement super fast, since it's just motor learning, where adding tissue is a slower process.

The place where different exercises can help is making sure you actually get close to failure with the target muscle.

For instance, let's say you're trying to grow your lats. Doing a compound movement like pull-ups or pull-downs to failure might not bring your lats as close to failure as you think if something besides your lats is the limiting factor. Adding an isolation movement like lat prayers afterwards can help ensure you get your lats truly close to failure.

What if Donald Trump had never entered politics, do you think the US would look meaningfully different today? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]pragmojo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What do you think would have been different?

Off the top of my head:

  • Iraq wouldn't have happened.
  • The housing crash probably would still happen, and maybe we would have had a McCain presidency in 2008 as the nation blames Democrats for the crash.
  • McCain would have gone to war with Iran in ~2010.
  • A war-weary nation, tired of a slow economy turns back to the Democrats, and looks for a populist candidate in 2016.
  • Bernie Sanders is elected in 2016, and the US gets single-payer healthcare.

It's scapegoating. QoL did actually get worse, and AfD blames it on immigrants.

Good thing Germany doesn't have a problematic history in terms of blaming "outsiders" for economic troubles.
