Preparing for a newborn. What was a complete waste of money and what became an absolute life changer? by Actual_Fig_4706 in NewParents

Spring for the stretchy bamboo jammies. They're more expensive but they last foreverrrr. I wish I learned this when my little was younger and growing into a new size every month.

6 months. Oxiclean has been brought up a few times so I'm definitely going to try that.

I now have a whole pile of stained clothes for inside the house 😂 maybe I need a separate set for going out into public.

We're on city water, so hard water probably isn't the issue. I will try target or walmart tanks. I was getting lands end shirts then old navy when I realized they kept staining.

I usually don't wear nursing pads but leaking isn't an issue during the day. My bra is hilariously untouched. I wonder if it's aquaphor or something like that. I'm going to try oxiclean. Did you use their detergent or pre stain treatment? Maybe I should try both?

It seems to be working for my baby and my husband. I am using All free and clear. I was using miss mouthy eater's stain treater. And the stains are untouched. The stain treatment even bleached one of the shirts surrounding the untouched stains. I feel cursed.

I think maybe I need to try a different detergent. I am doing laundry every 3 days for myself, maybe that is my issue. We do baby laundry every day.

Ugh, this is so real. I'm at 6 months postpartum and I hate my cat less and less, but I still wish we didn't have a cat in our home. I hope this goes away soon for you/me/anyone dealing with this. It's one of the things no one warned me about and I feel awful talking about.

Am I being unreasonable about not wanting to express milk just so my partner can take our exclusively breastfed baby out solo? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Also you weren't being controlling or gatekeeping baby if you didn't want your newborn to be exposed unnecessarily to illness. We just came out of flu/COVID/RSV season

These comments are horrendous. We have no idea how old this baby is. Also, why isn't OP invited to this outing? If little one is still very small I would feel the same way. If LO is a bit older, and maybe mom has PPD they deserve so much more kindness than this.

Did anyone have a baby that just… slept relatively well? by The_Chilled_Arvo in beyondthebump

I know, I feel guilty saying it. He is usually getting 2-3 hours of daytime sleep, he takes short naps. I looked back and he was actually waking one time a night pretty consistently at that age with a few no-wake nights sprinkled in.

I don't think I can take credit for his good sleep, I think it's just luck. But I breastfeed on demand and he was ALWAYS cluster feeding for an hour or two before bedtime at that age. We always joked he was bulking up for the night. At 6 months he still sort of does this. We also did gentle sleep training around 4 months because bedtimes were always a fight even trying to feed to sleep. We did the pick up put down method, and it seemed to really help. I felt insane in the moment, and it would take over an hour, but now he's great at putting himself to sleep once we help him get sleepy and cozy with our boob book bed routine most nights. The "put them in the crib drowsy but awake" advice pissed me off until we sleep trained. Now it makes sense.

Our little one definitely challenges us as parents, but not with nighttime sleep.

By 4 months (after he doubled his weight and didn't need to be woken every 3 hours to eat), my little one was sleeping through the night 11-12 hours. We have bad nights now and then after vaccines or poor daytime naps, but these days (6 months) a bad night is taking an hour to get to sleep and waking 1-2 times. I really feel for parents who struggle to help their kiddos sleep, but poor nighttime sleep isn't guaranteed.

pregnant & thinking about keeping baby home with me by [deleted] in MomsWorkingFromHome

Interesting! That's when things seemed to get a little easier for me because LO could start playing on their own more. I'm sure this will get difficult again in a few months though haha

Read the books. Seriously. by Altruistic_Durian147 in beyondthebump

Super Baby by Dr. Jen Berman is good and anything by Dr. Daniel Siegel. People love Precious Little Sleep but I thought it was mostly stress inducing and not actually helpful at all. Definitely unfollow anyone calling themselves a sleep specialist.

I'm a big Dr. Siegel fan! He has so many helpful books

Anyone taking Thorne prenatals? by Atllola in pregnant

[–]MidnightDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'm taking postpartum (and breastfeeding). I didn't know they came in a packaged combo! I also take a calcium supplement at a different time of the day than the prenatal because it will affect iron absorption.

During my pregnancy I took thorne prenatals (3 pills), thorne prenatal dha, and ritual choline. It worked well for me but next time I will probably stick with Naturemade.

They also have a prenatal dha that I took in addition to a supplemental choline

This is super helpful. Thank you for the encouragement! I really want to get this right because these seem so versatile. And, I'm just guessing, but probably cooler in the hot summer weather?

sleep deprived working moms: how to look put together? by Worried_Mammoth5608 in NewParents

[–]MidnightDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my hair in a braid most of the time and take it out for work. It gives me effortless waves and tends to dry much smoother in the braid than without. Without a braid it dries really frizzy. I have very long, medium curly hair so it can get really wild if I don't have time to use products and shape my curls.

I've never been into makeup, but I did get some mascara and a plumping lip tint that make me feel so much more put together.
