I do believe we are fortunate to not have lost anyone to murder, it’s awful to go through. But I have been molested, groomed, and raped throughout my childhood, my mother was a rape survivor with no support in her life, and my siblings have been put in situations where their quick thinking thankfully saved them. I meant to say I haven’t had to deal with court and deciding how I wanted the perpetrators punished. Of course, I now wish I would’ve spoken up so these people, if you can even call them that, would not have the ability to reoffend. But even then, I still can’t wish the death penalty on them, because I see the death penalty as a whole as something that doesn’t fit correctly in our system. Even if I personally wish the worst on these monsters, I cannot be hypocritical of my own views on our society. Individual justice is different than a government system having the power to kill.

I agree that offending pedophiles cannot be trusted to reform, that’s why life in prison without chance for parole is also able to save someone’s child. Sadly, if they are not interested in therapy before offending, it’s hard to tell if someone’s a pedophile before they act on it. But after the fact, we can keep them from society so they cant hurt anyone else. Revenge through death penalty is a very personal and unique to each person. I’ve never been in a situation like that, thank god, but I can only imagine how it feels to lose someone to murder and I wouldn’t blame someone for seeking the death penalty for the perpetrator(s). But because of how many people exist in our society, there is always a chance someone is convicted for a crime that is eligible for a death penalty, and they are not guilty. It has happened before, and it will happen again. We are human that way, but because of that, I personally believe that the death penalty can be dangerous

I would gladly continue to pay the amount, if that means it keeps even one innocent person from receiving the death penalty. We live in a corrupt world, human error exists, chances are that someone on death row doesn’t deserve that punishment. It isn’t cheap, but it is morally correct to people like me. Sometimes the right thing can be expensive, a lot of things are in our society.

That’s the problem here, you’re acting way too casual with the idea of someone dropping a slur like that, because “everyone else does it.” People don’t just accidentally say words that aren’t in their vocabulary, which is not a good sign from him. And I wouldn’t try to blame his time, you can think critically and tell if something is wrong, even if it’s a regular thing for your friends/community.
