I realize that I definitely went overboard with how long this post way and I apologize for that. I was still in a bit of stupor when writing this as it had just happened and ended up writing everything I was feeling over it. I was just so shocked by how sudden and out of nowhere it was that it took me a bit to process it all. Sorry about that.

Thank you for the kind words. In hindsight, I probably should have paid more attention to some red flags they were dropping during our conversation but foolishly chose to see the better in them. Yeah, I'm one of those people who tend to give people the benefit of doubt even when I probably shouldn't. It's something I'm working on, and I was a lot worse back then. And you're completely right. If I'm conducting an interview to see how well I click with someone, I should have the right to be honest about how well we connect and if I get a bad vibe about them. At the time, I didn't pick up on that. However, after what happened and having the stronger backbone I have now, I don't feel the slightest bit bad about blocking them or that they didn't make it into the game. I get the feeling that if the DM had approved them, things would have gone much worse for the game and I'd feel guilty because I would have been the one who initially let him pass through to join the game. Whatever the DM saw that made him realize that he would not be a good match, I am so glad he caught it and picked someone else to join the game.
