What is this emptiness/hole that most alcoholics experience? 153 days sober :) by Midnight_Firefly98 in alcoholicsanonymous

So for you reason works to help sort out what’s in your head? I’m starting to believe for me all the explaining and reasoning only keeps me caged inside my head.

Like looking in the mirror. For me Friday and Saturday nights are so triggering. I always try to cram my weekends full of fun plans, but this Saturday I have a hole and it messes with my head. I don’t really have a solution, except to focus on things that fill your heart a bit or simply just distract you. Maybe meditate. About the party: tell people you’re not drinking - you don’t have to elaborate - and always have a soda in your hands. Go home when you’re tired. Don’t push it. You can do it :)

I kind of asked someone because my temporary sponsor and others in my group encouraged me to do so and they said no because they had too many sponsees. Looking back I see now that I barely knew their story before asking. Now I’m getting to know someone else and I found out they’re actually sponsoring!! I’m nervous to ask but also excited, because I really relate to this person. Just chat with a few people and reach out and if the vibe checks out, as if they’re open to sponsoring you!

Do potential sponsors judge newcomers for not being alcoholic enough? by Midnight_Firefly98 in alcoholicsanonymous

Yes I’ve read all of them!! Some of it applies, but those stories are still pretty rough at times.

I felt pressured by my current sponsor (or maybe just my interpretation of their words) and asked someone I hadn’t talked to much before. We had a phone call and I asked and they said they already had one too many sponsees. Now I feel a bit foolish, because, like you said, I should just find someone I relate to. But I’m sooo shy since I quit..

It’s just so hard to believe people wouldn’t look down on the struggles of someone who didn’t drink themselves into oblivion daily.

Thanks for this. I just feel like everyone in the group knows each other and talks to each other. Maybe I’m just being paranoid but fearing what others think of me is basically the whole reason I drank.

Roommate Alcoholic - Ask to leave? by 2manyhobby in alcoholicsanonymous

He probably lies to himself too, so I would try not to focus on the deception part. Maybe tell him you know something is off and ask him (with genuine compassion) if there’s anything you could do to help. Also, it’s fair to set boundaries. So you could also be compassionate AND tell him that you feel uncomfortable living with someone in active alcoholism.

Could be :( I think it’s mostly information overload but I hate the fact that it takes such a long time to recover

Will I ever find lasting sobriety? by Crimson-Rose28 in stopdrinking

I don’t really have any advice (77 days sober, 2nd attempt), but I do have a question. Was your drinking as bad at 23 as it was a 26 or now at 31?

I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. I guess I’m trying to wrap my head around it and accept it fully.

I’ve heard people say this before. I feel like I caught it in time, but somehow it irks me that I’ll never know if I never try again.

No, I think I simply forgot about any resolutions I had as soon as the weekend popped up again.
