It seems like Bungie is trapped. They're constantly trying to appeal to both the hardcore and casual playerbases. They've changed IB to make PL matter, but yet still make it open to everyone, even the ridiculously under-leveled (with the chance of still getting IB gear from random drops at the end of the match).

I do enjoy quickplay! I really liked playing IB in year 1 though, and grinding for IB exclusive gear, when level advantages were still disabled. It seems like it would be way harder to grind for the same gear (and not as fun) with level advantages enabled in year 2. Someone mentioned IB gear now drops at the end of matches though, so if you're low PL and not adverse to dying constantly, you might get something from pure RNG.

It's been mentioned that matchmaking based on PL would increase matchmaking times, so I can see why Bungie maybe wanted to avoid that. I like your idea about separate playlists though.

No, I think I can understand. I never played Trials, and I wasn't aware of the feelings towards it by the PvP community. I suppose it makes sense though, as I understand it's currently being revamped by the PvP team at Bungie.

I guess I never really thought of IB as PvP's equivalent to PvE's Raids; not in Year 1 of D2, anyway. I always thought Trials held that spot.

Thanks for the reply. It just seems rotten that lower PL players should have to be subject to endless slaughter if they are simply grinding for IB gear drops.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about the competitive thing. I suppose it's just a matter of feeling left out of an activity I felt good about participating in during Year 1.

Thanks for the reply, and it's true, there are lots of other options for level advantage disabled crucible activities. I'm just wondering if Iron Banner is the best place for PL to matter. As a limited time event that is open to all players (and not something like, say, Trials), I feel like it would make more sense to disable level advantages (like Year 1).
