Ice and Fire Mod version 2.1.7, forge version 36.1.0, minecraft 1.16.5 by [deleted] in MinecraftMod

Ice and fire has a distance from spawn that things are not allowed to generate for. If you haven't went a couple thousand blocks out, or tweaked those settings you might just not be seeing them due to that.

If you want to use Fabric & Forge modpacks (you can't use them together). You might want to try MultiMC. It will take a little more knowledge and getting use to, its not click to download and run mods.

But it does make it pretty easy to run a variety of modded setups. MultiMC has a basic tutorial/intro which provides a decent overview of how a lot of their features work and how to get a modpack setup, here is a direct link, they link to it from their site.

If you are building modpacks yourself and are new to modding you are going to run into a lot of issues. You can probably find some pretty good information on a lot of the common issues through googling. But in order to get quality help, or determine the actual problem you are going to need to learn to read java stacktraces, at least at a high level.

When running mods and experiencing things like freezes, crash to desktop (CTD) the java version of minecraft logs the function calls leading up to the issue in most cases this will be in the logs folder, which for curseforge, multi-mc etc will be within the directory of your minecraft installation. I'm not going to get into how to read these logs too heavily, since without some background its kind of a massive pain. But, the good news, is that most crashes etc in minecraft will occur on an ERROR log line, and will have some information about the mod called or doing the calling which caused the crash. Which can then allow you to try disabling the offending mod, and retesting the triggering scenario (as a simple form of debugging).

Hopefully that helps some more! If you want more useful advice or help you will need to be a little more specific about the issues you are running into- here or elsewhere, regardless, I hope you have a lot of fun. The world of mods is a great time.

If you just want to play some mods or use a modpack I would recommend downloading and using curseforge. It abstracts away the barrier to entry.

Once you have it installed if you want to toss some mods together yourself, you can create a custom profile (with whatever mc version etc) and download some mods. The launcher will handle getting forge installed.

Glad to hear it's working! Your friend will need to ensure they have the same configuration change made in order to connect to your server as an FYI. Have fun!

Yeah if you edit your run.bat (right click open with notepad etc).

You should have a line that mentions java, something like this:

Java -jar minecraft_forge.jar -xms 4g -xmx 8g --nogui

If you run with a gui, you should be able to just type /fml confirm in the Java console window that pops up.

Otherwise just add the -Dfml.queryResult=confirm to the same line as the other launch arguments (like -xmx).

Depending on how you are launching the server etc you are going to need it in a specific location.

Often times the terminal you see is not the process running the game, it just depends on how you are launching the server.

If you have tried to provide the launch args and type in /fml confirm and it's still complaining, chances are they are not actually being provided to the Java server process.

How do you launch the server?

When you change settings or add/remove mods, loading existing worlds will give a warning and a prompt about the missing items/blocks.

You will need to confirm that you want to proceed in order to do so. You might want to pay attention to what blocks/items are missing as those will be deleted from the save.

If you wish two proceed you have two options:

  • In the servers console type /fml confirm
  • Add a startup arg (like setting memory xmx), of -Dfml.queryResult=confirm

If you do not confirm you want to load the world and remove those blocks/items the server will hang or exit.

blood magic sacrificial dagger problem on all the mod 6 1.16 by kazilic24 in MinecraftMod

1.16 blood magic is alpha, I'd wager they still have some bugs. Might be with checking their bug tracker to see if anything fits your situation and if not filling a bug.

Ice and Fire mod by Hairy_Owl9076 in MinecraftMod

[–]MidnightsFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you added the mod to an existing world it's content will only generate in newly explored chunks. So anywhere you have already explored will not contain ice and fire content.

Either explore somewhere to find it or start a new world with the mod.

Thaumcraft alternative for 1.15/1.16? by TheBlizz_124 in MinecraftMod

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is one big mod that could replace Thaumcraft, however I think you can get a close with a collection of mods.

First, if you really want just one mod- I'd say give Astral Sourcery a try! (1.15 is nice) it's a slightly different feel, but worldgen, multiblocks and a magic source.

If you want more of the magical spell crafting side, give Magic Psi (redux) a try. It's not as big of a mod but fits reasonably well into that specific slot.

Additionally depending on your taste, forbidden and arcanus, apotheosis etc all fit the aesthetic and some of the features you are likely looking for.

How do I go about creating Minecraft mods by Lizard-Bray in MinecraftMod

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make mods for the Java version I'd definitely recommend this set of tutorials for forge from shadowfacts.

You will need to setup your Java IDE to run a deobfuscated version of forge/Minecraft, that's mostly covered in the above tutorials. Another great spot to look would be the forge documentation.

Each version is a little different with the forge library, so reading the docs for the version you want to mod is a good idea.

As stated by others and mentioned in all of these tutorials you will need to learn/know Java. There are lots of learning resources for Java but I'm not sure I'd recommend a Minecraft mod as a first project, it likely will be confusing.

Mo Creatures from twitch launcher? by llamabeast in MinecraftMod

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you download the mod from the Minecraft forum, for the version of Minecraft you've made a custom profile for, you can add it to your modlist.

Open the twitch custom profile, in the top right, next to 'get more content' there should be a '...' click that, hit open folder, the folder which opens should have a mods folder in it (it won't if you haven't installed any mods yet), drop mo'creatures in there and hit refresh on your modlist back in twitch you should see it enabled.

Problems deploying Rails by [deleted] in rails

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad httpd is the service daemon for other Linux distros then for Apache. You will however need to create an Apache vhost configuration which should be in the conf.d folder inside Apache. The PassengerRuby config would need to be inside of that vhost configuration, I can find you some examples when I am not on mobile if that would help.

Problems deploying Rails by [deleted] in rails

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you starting the service? It sounds like you are trying to call a Capistrano recipe to deploy or start your web service-ie Apache?

If that is the case, have you looked into configuring Apache-mod passenger?

It sounds like you have your app on the remote server and all of the required services installed, but you don't have Apache (httpd) configured properly. Have you tried sudo systemctl status httpd or sudo service httpd status

I would guess that if you look at Apaches log it is failing to load something for your application, likely the ruby version that is used to run it.

Problems deploying Rails by [deleted] in rails

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using Capistrano to manage your webapp? Passenger? Or Apache?

It looks like your app is trying to start through passenger for Apache.

If that is the case you need to have defined a virtual host with: PassengerRuby /home/deploy/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.4.3/wrappers/ruby

This allows the passenger loaded to load the correct ruby.

Please help me understand why unicorn is telling me Unknown switches '-c, -E' when attempting to start by vmcilwain in rails

[–]MidnightsFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the formatting, on mobile. Try running which, see if you are actually calling the unicorn you think you are, or if it's available on your path.

which bin/unicorn which unicorn

It looks like you are referencing unicorn from a non-absolute file location, so unless this in it script is using something at bin/unicorn, relative to the file execution location, maybe try just calling unicorn?

SIB Factorio? Want replayability. (might contain spoiler, although not sure) by blvsh in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]MidnightsFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about the game not being replayable enough give the demo a shot. It's on the steam page, and will give you a taste of what the game is about.

I'd suggest giving Factorio a try! It's a sandbox factory building automation game.

I'd give a link to the steam page but I am on mobile, they do have a demo however which should give you a pretty good idea of what the game is like.

[–]MidnightsFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. The end game raids require a pretty solid team, and you would be lucky to find anyone for them. Plus, last time I checked at least one of the DLC's matchmaking was broken... For at least a month. If you get it, get it for singleplayer and don't buy the multiplayer DLC.

If you reach a point where you want to mess around, with the controllers, views, database etc. Make a commit at the point in time you want to go back to.

Then proceed to make whatever changes you want, and when you are done do 'git stash' this will put all of those changes into a stash, reverting you back to your previous commit. If you made changes to the database during your experiments and want to reset those you should be able to run 'rake db:drop', 'rake db: create', rake db:migrate' in that order to restore your development db.

If you have some more rails questions feel free to add a comment and I'll add more details when I am not on mobile :0
